Well. Firstly, let me dispell the myth that CF-18s are COMPLETELY indestructable.

Although it has survived a 6,000 mile motorcycle trip across Africa, been dropped several times, had coffee and wine spilled over it... etc. etc.

When I smashed it on the pavement in a rage - the screen cracked.

Everything else is in PERFECT WORKING ORDER - and I have a working screen - but the screen has a crack across it.

Like a big nasty GRIN to remind me of my outrageous folly and silly temper tantrum.

And is is now, officially, no longer a touch screen.

HOWEVER -- a friend came to the rescue - and offered me a BRAND NEW SCREEN.

Thing is -- I almost peed myself with excitement, and started unscrewing and stuff...

only to find that mine was a TOUCH SCREEN and not a DIGITIZER.

    SOooooooo --- TWO QUESTIONS:

    1. Can I glue a little extra plug inside my CF-18, so that I can plug the DIGITIZER's redundant little plug in there?

    or

    2. Does anyone want to swap me a working touch screen, for a Digitizer.

AND --- you can have my cracked screen, as a bonus.

It still works, you know. Its just not touch screen.

The touchscreen models and digitizer models are NOT the same screens and can NOT be inter-mixed...

    Sorry

BTW, you sound worse than me... LMFAO... I cracked my CF-30 lid stomping on it prooving how tough it was and put a $113 crack in it :p

    All replaced now though :)

So would it be wrong to ask here, if anyone has a touchscreen that they want to swap for my digitizer?

The touchscreens are worth WAY more than the digitizer's are so probably not an even swap... Gonna have to pay for it... BTW, if you are indeed a girl then you are the only girl (other than all of the wives of the guys here lol) that is on this forum...

    WELCOME!

Speaking as the 'friend' who was nearly on the receiving end of the temper outburst I can confirm that the force 'she' delivered was way in excess of the mil spec 4 foot drop - more like a 60mm howitzer.

As tough as these are, I still baby mine. Many people say they would pay to see me Frisbee it out of my Subaru on the freeway. No offer was great enough to replace a screen and hard drive.

I some times use mine as a baseball bat and when I get a little too much in me I use it as a step stool... :)

Let me assure you, Toughbook screens are indeed crackable.

    I've broke 3 of them.

If anybody on this board has damaged more Toughbooks than me, I'd love to hear about it. :D

I had a user at work admit to me that he actually did this. He intended to just leave it there, but decided post-toss that his supervisor might ask the obvious type questions like, "Where did your $3000 laptop go?" so he turned around to go get it. It still worked fine and only had a little road rash from the trip!

I still lurk once in a while. I just don't post as much.

Oh, and no, not a zombie yet. I've got too many awesome firearms to become a zombie that easily ;)

I have a Mk3, It has enough scratches already. The whole reason I got one is cause my thinkpad jumped off the jump seat and landed/slid the wrong way across the bay after turbulence. It powered up but that hard drive sounded like a UFO and every place there was a screw there was a crack.
