I did really search.![]()
Anyway, 18D. No stylus. Got one off the net. No workie.
The screen doesn't appear to be physically damaged. No warnings or nags during startup. BIOS says enabled. Clear board windows/system/hardware (Using XP SP3 Tablet). I can activate the doodad in the tray and call up the test / calibrate routine.
Nothing.
Doesn't matter if it is in notebook or tablet mode.
Nothing.
I don't know anything about this particular technology. Is there something I can 'fake' the screen into thinking it is a stylus so I can eliminate that variable? The one I have has a white pointy tip, fits in the slot, but no button on its' shaft.
Thoughts?

High Order,
I've just started with my new digitizer CF-18 but, you need a digitizer pen. It has no battery, works with a magnetic field. Apparently it conforms to the Wacom "Penabled" standard so you can use other than Panasonic pens which I find painfully tiny. There is a standard called "UD" which is a little dated, but which is the format used by the CF-18's digitizer panel. I've been too sick to mess with this much, but there is a wealth of information on the tablet forums. There are some pretty smart folks over there too! Don't sell the digitizer short, what little messing around I've done has me pretty impressed with this technology, it is most decidedly not just a different pointing device and you need to understand some of the applications to appreciate it.

EDIT, PENS THAT WORK WITH THE cf-18-19: http://forum.tabletpcreview.com/showthread.php?t=12695 -
Hey CPT;
Thanks for the input. I had a sneaking suspicion magnetism was involved. I am glad to hear that there are other tools that will work, I agree that my stylus needs more meat, too.
Very sorry to hear you're sick. With the wx we've had in Tn the last few months, its' a wonder anyone is well here. Yesterday was *wonderfully* sunny and warm - we all had about forgotten that kind of weather! lol
Alex,
as always, you are seriously an incredible information source. Thanks again!
(toddles off to research wacom pens for grownups with meaty hands)...
Hey - can I use that thing with graphics programs as an input device? I've always wanted a (drawing) tablet for photoshop, but just didn't have the $$ to throw at R&D.

Cap... Sorry to hear that you are sick.... I wish you a speedy recovery!
Shawn... Yes... You need the digitizer stylus... The rice for the Panasonic part is WAY High... I just got a quote at Heartland was;
DFWV91J0031 - Stylus for Digitizer - $85.79
YIKES!
I believe that any digitizer stylus will work though I'm others will jump in if I am wrong. However... Loading the OS from scratch can be difficult if you do not have the recovery disks. Look in the two most recent CF-18 threads for that info. I had a full head of hair when I got my digitizer... Now... Well... Let's just say I'm thinning.
I prefer the touchscreen for my needs. I don't need the perfection of the digitizer plus I'd rather have the serial port on the back that you give up with the digitizer model. That is needed for a lot of diagnostic equipment... What I feel the Toughbook line was partially made for.
Anyway... Sing out if you need help... You only have around 20-30 people ready to help!
