I have a CF-18 and a Gamber Johnson Dock The dock did not have the wifi pass through, however it has all the cut outs. Can this be purchesed or is there a mod for it. Also, is it for wifi and gps?

My 18 is the Digitizer model, can a touchscreen PDRC (cf-vdl02) be attached and if so what is the trick. it keeps telling me it cant be detected. I read it should be on com 1 but under device manager it only list com 4 when i change the touchscreen to com 4 I get blue screened

    Thanks

The CF-18 digitizer models do not have support for external com ports even when a docking station is used. This is/was part of the specification for Windows XP tablet edition. Only way around it is to use USB to serial adapters. Or trade it in for a touchscreen model which does support 1 onboard serial and another through the dock.

First things first: What is your CF-18's Model Number (CF-18xxxxxxx)? This will tell us whether or not your unit has external antenna connectors.

Second: Gamber-Johnson offers this dock in a Dual RF version:

    Item Number:
    7160-0207-02

    Antenna Pass-Through:
Wireless WAN & Wireless LAN (TNC)

    Port Replicator
    - USB (4) 4 pin
    - Dual Antenna Pass-Through TNC
    - Ethernet RJ45
    - Serial (2) D-sub 9 pin
    - External video D-sub 15 pin
    - Headphones/speakers Stereo phono jack
    - Microphone Mono phono jack

    Installation Guide

Finally: Check with Gamber-Johnson directly to see if they have a Retro-Fit Kit for the non-RF dock.

It looks like your questions are answered
Usb to serial adapter to get a com port needed for your ext touchscreen panel
I recomend the type using the Prolific chipset and PL-2303 driver as they are stable

As you have two breakouts for antenna's and no wwan they must be for 802.11 and gps

I successfully installed win7 on my 18 whoo hoo!!
    OK enough of that.
I called Gamber Johnson I can send it in and have it upgraded for $125.00 they will not sell me the part out right. Thats more than I paid for the dock could i attach an external plug to the internal antenna so i could hook up, say an XM radio antenna? I only want the gps antenna because the way my tb is mounted in my peterbilt i only get gps signal when i am going certin directions

    next question
when i plug the cf-vkb03 keboard into the ps2 port on the dock the keys and the backlight function but the touchpad does not. How do i fix this
i ordered a serial to usb for the touch screen (hope that does the trick)

    Big Iron,

Before you invest any money, let me see what I have.

I have three different types of docks I got with cf-07's and PDRC, and one may work for what you want. When I get home I'll photograph and figure out what they are, and see if you can use any. I was buying up the components for a project, but not sure where its going.

I recently queried Gamber-Johnson about upgrading their non-RF PanaDocks to single- or dual-passthrough capabilities.

    They replied:

You will need to send it in to be upgraded. We do not ship out these types of parts.

Please submit an RMA Request online. Here is the link:

    http://www.gamberjohnson.com/rma.php

    Here are the estimates:

Non RF to Single RF: Around $100

Non RF to dual RF: Around $120.00

So much for the Do-It-Yourself route. :(

    @ big_iron

When I hooked the keyboard through a usb adapter ,window xp found the correct drivers and both keyboard and touchpad worked

When hooked up to a laptop single combination mouse/keyboard ps2 connector no extra drivers were reported and it worked fine with the standard windows drivers

I recomend if possible using a usb adapter

    :D :D :D
OK I have a usb adapter but win 7 would only see it as an HID Compliant device
BUT after much trial and error I updated the driver with the
Fujitsu USB Composit Keyboard Mouse AND IT WORKS
