Hello all...seems like a good place to ask some questions about this cool laptop.
I recently bought a toughbook, model number CF-18KDHZAVM,and it has a fresh install of xp tablet edition 2005 with the MK4 drivers.
Everything works as it should (even when you put the pen to the screen, it moves the mouse) but it will not double tap to open folders,or draw things.
I even installed the updated mouse drivers in the device manager so it says "touchpad" instead of ... ps2 mouse or something like that.
Also the pen is missing the button that should..... right click maybe?..... but even when i put the pen to the screen and use something to touch where the button should be..it still wont right click. But the pen does move the mouse around when you move it around the screen.
So my question is..how do i get the double tap to work ect..and does the missing button on the pen have something to do with it.
Sorry for the long post, but this is driving me nutts!

You have it figured out
You need the stock digitizer pen ,with the button to right click and scroll
They cost about $45

so this will solve the no "doubletap" problem as well?
Ill put the pen onto a folder..and stick something small onto where the button should be, and ill press it twice..and itll still not open it. -
To open by double tapping ,I just double tap with my stock sylus
I have a cf-19 digitizer model with the stock sylus and running W7
I am replying to you on it now
Maybe you need to reinstall drivers, to get it working
The button is only for the right click

The index finger button is supposed to default to the same function as "right-click"; the double-tap is supposed to default to "click & drag". They can of course be reassigned in the WACOM control panel.
Have you installed the LATEST WACOM PenAbled driver?
http://www.wacom.com/tabletpc/driver.cfm
It has much better resolution, plus it raises the pressure sensitivite range about 10X and enabled the Eraser-End even on Tablet PCs that didn't come with it. You have to use an Eraser-Enabled Sylus from WACOM, but there are dozens to choose from.
Also, you may need to adjust pressure-sensitivity as well as the double-click distance calibration on the WACOM control panel independently of the pointer location calibration...

Well i just used another pen from a HP tablet...and the doubletap works fine...
as well as the button..so all around this pen that came with it is junk!
I didnt change no settings..i just used a different pen..and i did use the wacom driver as well! -
Well, then... looks like you've found your culprit!
I would still use the latest WACOM driver as I linked for you; or is that what you meant you had done?

I wouldn't say the stock pen is junk... You just need one that isn't broken. If the button is missing that is your cause. You'll never beat being able to slide it into the bottom of the bezel...

ok now another problem, how do you get the GPS working?
I have the reg entries that came in the mk4 package, but when i click it,it says "error accessing the registry" also i read somewhere that the GPS is what causes the eratic screen thing too..how do i solve this whole GPS thing?
And again,id like to thank all of you who are taking the time to help me out! -
It depends.... What are you trying to solve? Did you read about the jumping mouse or are you experiencing it?
What programs are you using to access the GPS? It should most likely be on COM2 at 4800 Baud. -
im experiencing it..and at the moment theres no software on the tablet for it.

Here is a link to one thread of many here talking about the jumping mouse

As I recall... This was an issue with the CF-28 when going from Win2k as the OS to Win XP Pro... You'd get the jumping mouse when the GPS was installed. You could go into the Device Manager and turn off the Serial Ballpoint Mouse and the jumping would go away.
From what I have heard... They made a registry fix for the CF-29 and others to negate this issue. Usually, if you install your OS via the Recovery Disks, you should never have this problem. But if not... Panny includes the registry fixes on their websites... Just make sure that you have the EXACT one called for. You'll need the correct MK#. (This goes for most Panny drivers) or you will get the dreaded, "This model not supported" or some other error message.
I have only had the jumping mouse on one laptop since and the fix was to delete the Serial Ballpoint Mouse. There was also a way to edit the autoexec.bat file (I think) so that it was never even addressed and you didn't end up with the big yellow question mark in Device Manager.
We'll get through this... Please keep us posted as to what happens. -
This showed up on both w2000 and on xp
Correction on the fix
You do not delete the serial mouse in the device manager, you disable it
I have to do this on all the computers that I install on boats, as its a common issue when a gps is hooked up to a com port
