Well I managed to finally break the screen on my laptop
I have the digitizer version (which I do not use the functionality of anyway) but am I able to swap over to a touchscreen screen rather than putting in another digitizer screen?
Any help would be much appreciated

Yes you can. Digitizer/toucscreen is not a part of LCD. When you change LCD - you will still have digitizer version

Thanks for the reply
Am I not able to swap the complete top half and have a touchscreen instead of digitizer? -

No , if I am right you would need to change the motherboard board too. I have never owned a digitizer but I think the digitizer board is built onto the motherboard...anyone...Teo , ADOR , Jeff -
I agree, it's easier to replace the whole laptop

The Digitizer motherboard on the CF-18 series has digitizer and touchscreen hookups. The Touchscreen motherboard only has touch hookup. I sold one parts unit to Springfield a while back that was like that. The original motherboard was sold to another member. I couldn't get the touch to work, even though I tested it to see that it would work before hand. In hind site I was discussing this with our friendly dragon and I don't think I went into bios to see if Touch was activated there. I told Springfield of it right after. I don't know if that unit was fully parted out or he went ahead and fixed it. We would have to hear from him on that one.
The digitizer is not a clear layer on top like newer phones are. It is a green board behind the screen. If just your screen is bad and you can get get just a screen cheap they are easy to swap out. I think it took me about 8 minutes to swap a 18 screen into a 19.
What exactly is wrong with your screen? If it's just the back light they are easy to swap out. Not sure of the price of the parts though. If you have a Mk1 model 18 I think the layers infront of the screen are a little different.
What is your full model number? So we can see exactly what you have. -
Just uploaded some pictures of the damage, can't find an exact model number for the laptop

If the sticker on the bottom is right it says 900 mhz for you CPU speed. This should be a Mk1. If you have an external monitor you can plug it up to double check what model number is in the bios. Now depending on your budget and location now could be a time to upgrade. Mk2/3 will give you 1.1 cpu with same chipset or a Mk4/5 will give you the updated chipset, but you will have to reload windows with that one. You have the caddy and battery so swapping it into a updated machine may work for you. Even if the one you get is missing a door all of these parts swap. Some times the screen can cost as much as the whole thing. Just keep that in mind.

Not quite sure what you mean for me to do?
Sorry not the best with computers, quite happy to take them apart and put back together though -
What I was getting at is if you are in North America area you can get a replacement chassis off places like eBay. Just have to wait for the right deal. You have the caddy and battery so you can get a stripped out model. Now if you live overseas I know the price can jump up a lot and parts are hard to come by. You will just have to price replacement screens and compare that to stripped out unit. If you go the stripped out model route now would be a good time to upgrade to a CF-18 that has better components in it.

There is one the bay, buy it now for less than $100.00

Ah ok I see what you mean, unfortunately I live in the UK so prices jump quite a lot

Bought myself a replacement, bought a CF-29
Can't get the wireless internet to connect though, works fine on an ethernet cable, just keeps going round in circles connecting and disconnecting itself -
