When I use my Toughbook all day (8-12 hours) using OziExplorer software for the TOPO mapping during 4wheeling, it comes back with endless dialog pop ups telling me something along the lines of "Not enough room to store data" or something like that. Sorry for not capturing all the message as it "always" happens when I am driving.
When I click ok there are a large stack of endless dialogs to dismiss and I end up having to blow away the program loosing all data.
I have it lately where it will just tell me that it is having problems running low on virtual memory and I can just save the data and reboot.
Ideally I would rather not have to reboot and continue using the computer like I used to all day long with no problems.
Any ideas on what could be failing?
I love the CF-18 for the fact I can use it in tablet or laptop mode or I would upgrade.
Thanks in advance

How much RAM do you have installed? What size harddrive? How much empty space is left on the harddrive?

ram and virtual memory.....
control panel>system>advanced>performance>advanced>change (don't change anything, though)
WHat is it set to?
For the error, or virtmem, a picture is worth a thousand words. Next time, pull over, hit "PrtSc", paste the result into mspaint, and save as jpg. Drive on...

windows reports 1.24GB RAM
250GB HDD capacity w/169GB free space
Initial size (MB): 763
Maximum size (MB): 2000
It appears I do not have enough virtual memory set -
I would set both initial size and maximum size to 3072 which is the max that windows xp can work with it will stop windows from resizing the cirtual memory all the time .

I dunno peewee. Setting the min that large means that the computer will always be sifting through 3gb of data. Might stop the "error message here" but will run slower (somewhere between "not really noticeable" to "holy crap this sucks").
Get the error message for us....we'll fix ya up.
What all do you have running?
what do you have loading at startup?
Both of those can reeeeeaaaally affect things like virtmem and ram consumption/allocation. -

Any time I have done it I always found a speed incres. Windows will only store what it needs in the virtual memory. what it does it stops windows from having to resize the virtual memory all the time. The only time windows will have to go though 3gb of data is when you have a load of memory hungry programs opened at the same time. -
I do not have much at startup... how can I tell for sure what is being started at startup?
I normally run OziExplorer and DeLorme Topo at the same time and for months I had no problem then the memory issue popped up. I now only run OziExplorer and have the problem. -

Premise: some programs and services start when windows starts. Some start whether you use/need them or not. You can change that.
you have two options: your programs can all load, just a little bit when windows starts; and then the whole computer runs just a little slower, but the individual programs start up faster when you start them
or, no extra little pieces load with windows, your computer runs faster, and those programs individually each take an extra 2 seconds (almost literally) to start.
Do not fiddle about or change anything involving what you are about to read (from me) until you understand it
!!!!!YOU ARE USING THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!!!
it's not exceedingly dangerous IF you know what you are doing.
start>run>services.msc and click the coumn "startup type"
this is a list of all the services on your computer. some you don't need, some you do. you can turn them on or off, automatic or manual. google it, there is wayyy too much to explain in 1 post. try here black viper's page. ti's the most comprehensive explanation of all that, that I've ever found. This is also one of the first things I do to "speed up" someone's computer.
Also, check in start>run>msconfig.exe and click the startup tap. anything that is checked, is starting with windows. again, some you need, some you don't. If there are exact duplicates checked, then you can definitely turn off 1 of the 2.
also, look in
%system root%/documents and settings/all users/start menu/startup and
%system root%/documents and settings/{your account}/start menu/startup
