So I have a CF-18DDAZAMM that a friend isn't using and I am thinking of buying.... if I can get it working.

So it has some serious issues.

Under device manager... there is nothing. I dont know how, but there seam to be no devices?

I loaded the MK2 drivers on a USB jump drive from my main laptop. When I plug the jump drive into the CF... nothing. It does not see anything pluged into either port.

So I tried to use my router and get the drives downloaded directly to the CF. Well no dice there. It seams to lack that ability to see a LAN, or its ethernet port.

So what do I do now? I have a XP tablet edition cd, and an external drive, but with the CF not seeing anything in a USB port, Im not sure that will even help. What do I do now? I know some about computers, and can follow instructions, but I am out of ideas here.

THANKS FOR ANY SUGGESTION! I want to get this working to get it in an early bronco of mine and use it for GPS of trails and maybe onboard EFI tuning.
    THANKS!
    ryan

So your issue is that although you have windows installed and it boots into windows ,you have problems with lan and usb ports

Make sure Device manager under the view tab is set to, view devices by type

You can hit F2 while booting and go into the bios screen on the last tab and reset devices to defaults

Ok, so i went to the startup menu and selected normal startup. It was on selective, or minimal, or something like that. Now my ethernet port works and I was able to connect to the internet for updates. I installed those.

I now have a couple more questions...
1- when ever I hit restart, it takes a while to shut down because "the program- sample" is not responding. What is this and how do I stop it.

2- I try to go to Add Hardware, or Network setup wizard to try to get the wifi to work (it doesnt now) and when I try to open it nothing happens. Whats up with this? Are there drivers or gaps in software that need to be fixed?

3- How do I get the view wireless network menu?

For question 2 ,check in device manager for network devices
The wireless must be there either installed or as a unknown network device, if not you will not get wireless to work

Did you reset bois by hitting F2 while booting ?

Yes I hit F2 and reset them. Thought it didn't help. I have done some more digging and found the services menu from start>run. I have been looking at all the services, and a lot are disabled? Why? Like the one for the help menu. I have been scrolling thru and making sure any services that I think I need/use are set to start "atuomatic". Are you familliar with this? Are all of the services supposed to be set to start automaticly?

Go to Windows [ start ] --> Search --> For Files or Folders ... --> All files and folders --> A word or phrase in the file: then type in sample and search for the file.

Once you find it you can then identify what program is associated with it and how/why it's running in the first place.

If you have an external cd drive
Plug the drive into the usb port , most likely the port towards the rear
Go into the bios and select cd drive as first boot device
Insert a bootable disk, xp etc
Don't reinstall software , just check
See if you can boot to it

If you can boot a windows reinstall is the best option , if you decide you want to buy this

    1) are your usb ports working
    2) do you have wi-fi working

If no to above , your cf-18 is really messed up and for reliability you should reinstall windows

The COA is its still showing on the bottom will only work for tablet ed

If you install normal xp you will need a new product key and you will need to spend some time updating software to get everything working

You will get most things working on this , but it will be time consuming

Try my idea on booting to the cd and see if it works
If that doesn't your cf-18 is best sold as parts and move on to a less troublesome tablet

I followed the instructions, but when I get to step 4: 4. Select [Start]-[Run], and input
    "C:\util\drivers\pr_lan\MacUnInstall.exe",
    then select [OK].

It says this refers to a location that is unavailable??????
    What now?

I've only ever seen "End Program Sample - Not Responding" in Safe Mode, where I understand that normally it's just a symptom of the Intel PROset wi-fi drivers being prevented from operating, and is nothing to worry about. Here it might be caused by the ZeroConfig service being disabled.

However, apparently there is a chance that it could be a symptom of a virus too. I'm wondering if all those services being shut down is the result of someone trying to troubleshoot an infected computer. Either way, I would take the advice of reinstalling Windows if you can. It wouldn't take a lot longer than fixing all those processes manually, plus you don't know what else has happened to this install so it would be good to get back to a known good state!

Edit to add: Internet shortcuts appearing on the desktop is suggestive of a virus infection as well.
