A couple of members asked me to post some pics of my CF-18 mounted in my Landcruiser. Here it is. I use it like this for mapping only not every day, i just loosen the to screws and twist the housing and it detaches from the overhead console leaving nothing behind..
    Regards
    Phil

    Yowie is right! Excellent post!

As a matter of fact... Someone was just asking me about this the other day. Can you be a little more specific with the mount... Better close-ups, etc???

    Very, VERY cool!

    Hi All
Thanks for the comments. The housing has been folded out of 1.6mm steel and covered in backless automotive carpet which the laptop slips into very snugly. The GPS has a magnetic base and just sits on the back ( windscreen side) of the housing. There are cut-outs for the power, usb & on/off switch. There are two stainless bolts with large machined washers in the overhead console screwed into a length of 50mm x 6mm steel sitting on top of the shelf. The housing has slotted holes so the bolts are loosened the housing pushed into one bolt and then twisted onto the other then tightened. I just timed it, it took approx. 30sec to mount and dismount the unit.
    Thanks
    Phil

That there is right nifty... though here in the States, they'll ticket you for having something blocking that much of your windshield...

I know, you prolly feel you can see just fine around it; but we have a VERY paternalistic attitude in our legislative branch... They would rather make a blanket law that really exceeds their purview than be bothered to use common sense as the case demands.

That might depend on the vehicle its in, a CF-18 isn't much larger than some of the sunvisors out there. I'd also think that it would be pretty hard to see through the windshield while you're just driving by, most likely you'd have to already be pulled over for them to notice it.
Then again, I drive a F250 and its got a larger windshield and the roof is higher above the windshield too.

It also tends to block the rearview mirror, but I'm pretty sure thats not required.

I really like the configuration of the LC with the multi-mode flat bed behind the cab area. I also like the way the push bar extention wraps around to either side. Just another great vehicle that the Aussies have (like many of the Holdens) that I wish were available here in the US. With the demise of Pontiac, and the fall of GM, I doubt now if we will ever see the Ute here as the new El Camino. :(

Yowie.... Out of curiosity... How many Gallons/Litres of fuel can that hold? I would imagine that you are setup for extended cruising.

It holds 180 litres ( 47.55 US Gallons ) of Diesel which gets me about 1400km ( 870 miles ) our last trip we covered 21000km ( 13000 miles ) half a lap of Australia.
