I recently bought a CF-18 and it doesn't have the original software and I have some questions about getting the restore disks. I tried to do a search but couldn't get any hits searching for CF-18 or cf-18 or cf 18. I don't know if I wasn't using enough characters or not.

It's a CF-18F so I guess that's MK3 which I find is hard to get. Could I use the MK4 restore disk on it?

What is the part number for the MK3 restore disks and does Heartland have it? Same question for the MK4.

If I can't get the restore disks, I am planning on installing Ubuntu.

    Thanks for your assistance,

    Chad

You can not use any other restore disk but the one for your MK. Also there is 2 types....touchscreen and digitizer MK restore disk so you will need to post your full model number

Read this post....it could help you out http://forum.notebookreview.com/panasonic/515589-how-use-wrong-oem-cd.html

check with JB007Rules as he may be able to get the correct disc set to you. Another guy on ebay Mark Hawkins sells the restore disc sets reasonable. I had issues with restoring a cf-18 and the problem worked out being the drive that I was using. went with an older sony unit off fleabay that took it like a champ. these laptops are nice but its so much easier to just get your hands on the restore disc set. welcome to the world of toughbooks. you can't just own JUST ONE!.......you'll understand soon enough.....Driller

Is there a number of posts one has to have before they can page members? I looked on JB007Rules profile and didn't see any way to contact him.
