Anyone have a set of schematics for the CF-18 (any model)
I have the service manual - there are no schematics in there like the CF-28 service manual.
I'm trying to find a nice 5v supply and some details on the serial port - a schematic would definitely help.

They do make them I know this... just don't know where to get them from lol... try here as modly has some stuff too: http://www.modly.org/servicemanuals/

can't believe this...on friday i bought an service manual with schematic for the cf-18bhkzx-m .... ****, i was too fast.
but in some days my cf-18 will get bluetooth, gps, irda, com-port, mic and umts/hsdpa or a camera.
@ d_p_yan: are u working on the same things? u can get protected 5V easy from the USB-Port. -
yes and no ...
my boss wants a generic io board for the cf-18's cn16 connector - our initial requirement is to fit an rfid reader inside the cf-18 case with a flexible pcb antenna under the palm rest.
luckily the reader is 5v ttl but it has an rs232 interface hence the need for the schematic. i've finished the pcb design today just need to etch it and wait for a few parts to arrive before fitting it and trying it out.
It will fit in the sound card space (we don't need sound) and use the same mount holes for fixing. the io board will probably be upgraded to include an GM862 combined GPS and GPRS module for comms once the rfid reader setup is stable.
the boss has said i can post the details of the interface board (minus the rfid stuff) on the forum if I want - so I was planning on doing that when i've ironed out the bugs.
looking at the cn16 pinouts it has 2 x rs232 and one USB - much the same as CN18 on the cf-28. -
Just to remind you guys that VA5 is always on even if the pc is off and I will recomend the VC5 for your project. Good luck

ohlip,
i'm running the rfid reader off of vc5 - but i'm planning to have a board jumper for the GM862 module as it has a perl interpreter built in which could be used to provide a simple phone home tracker solution - it also has some basic but effective power saving features so battery drain shouldn't be too bad.
the GM862 as a tracker would need va5 power as you would want it to run in standby as well. if the tracker functionality is not required the jumper could connect vc5 to the modules power pin instead. -
@d_p_yan: Thats right
cn16 has posibilities to connect the devices like GPS on the seriell part and the cam (or hsdpa-stick) on the usb-part. On cn17 on the underside of the board i would connect the bluetooth-stick and on cn27 or cn700 i will atach the IrDA-part. An separate com-port com2 (the extern-connector) should be also on the board. I'm looking for the location today evening or did u found it?
If u will easy switch on and off the rfid-reader in windows, take a look on cn17 and on the original software from panasonic "wswitch", which sends 3,3V on pin3 from cn17 to power on the normaly on cn17 conected bluetooth-part. Or take a look on http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=242638 .
Are u knowing some software for the GM862? Otherwise i'll try to program my own. This would be the best way to integrate GPS and HSDPA AND a micro-Camera on one device....and offer a tracking posibility ;-) . I'd never heard before from roundsolutions.com, but it's in my country. -
onirakkiss, i haven't found the com2 port you mention, for our needs we'll probably just use one rs232 port on cn16 and connect the GM862 to the usb port on cn16 via a FTDI FT232RL usb to serial converter - this will also allow some protection between the motherboard and the GM862 module.
We were planning on writing our own python script for the gps track requirement - it might be worth sending an e-mail to telit support - they have been pretty good with us too date. Or have a look at www.telit.com there's a fair amount of info on the GM862 there. To be honest the track solution should be fairly straight forward - wake up, get the lat/lon and send it either via sms or gprs to an endpoint, go to sleep - no brainer.
I don't know if you've seen the sparkfun info on the GM862 - they have a fairly simple example on getting the camera option to work with some source code - see http://www.sparkfun.com/commerce/product_info.php?products_id=281
Our GM862 samples arrived today. i'm hoping we'll have something up and running on the rfid front early next week - then i'll tackle the GM862 integration. -
@d_p_yan: On the small board, where the power-connector and the ext.CRT-connector are located u can find COM2
. But there are not the necessary capacitorarrays EZASCE101M to use it. I will buy some and solder them on the board.
And on the small audio-card u can find CN900 (CN700 in the Schematic), the connector for the IRDA. Does anyone know the schematic or part-number of the subassambly IRDA itself? -
I need to know if anyone has the exploded view schematic so that i can get part numbers for a few items. I am looking for the GPS antenna in particular and other items that I may need hooking up my bluetooth / GPS board. Any help would be great.

What parts do you have now?
Alex -
Original Panasonic Toughbook CF-18 Bluetooth Module with the GPS Daughterboard. Part numbers on boards are DL3UP1281GBA and DL3UP1237GAA. Its a CF-18 that didnt come with the GPS or BT but I have purchased the boards from internet. It came with software and boards. I am looking for the antenna that mounts on the side as well as the gps shields that I will need on the inside and of course the waterproof gaskets that go on the antenna. I am a great newbie here and am very grateful for your help.

Guess I may need the BT Antenna as well...Not sure if its in there or not. I havent taken the back off yet. Wanted to wait till I had everything I needed.
-
Your cf-18 has already a builtin antena for bluetooth when you open the case you will see an spare cable with color blue near the audio board and also an antena for WWAN on it. The antena and gps that you need is also a gps module of cf-29. The only dif..ce is the antena casing for cf-18 is mounted at the rightside corner of the unit while the CF-29 is mounted also on plastic covering of the sled.

GREAT news about the BT Ant, but the GPS antenna (gps module) is what I am not sure of the part number from partstore.com.
-
figured it out with the bt....but now i am just messing around until i can get the gps antenna i need
-
That company are selling stoves parts. Are you trying to cook or to mod?
Its already been discussed somewhere here the "partstore.com" two years ago here in NBR. But anyway good luck. Maybe you have a luck on finding that module on the oven..... I mean on that site.
ohlip -
I didnt know but I do like to cook. Wonder if I can make TBEggs and ham. I am just looking for a GPS now then. I didnt get the BT PCI and Daughterboard for the GPS from them. I have been looking and not sure what would be a good idea now. Any suggestions??? Thanks.
-
Anyway, I think I have still one of those gps module. I will look at it see what I can find.

The stove part’s joke as I remember is from a previous thread, in which a company ,I’m not sure if this was the same company , had not only electronic parts for sale but stove parts etc.
I looked a the time on that company’s website I could not tell for sure that they actually sold the specialized electronic parts or if they had mad a mistake on the website

not hurting this nb's feelings at all. Thanks for looking.
-
Ok! rhoney....25, this is the only no. I found on the gps module "CN-GX0290AA" and I could not find any no. or part no. on a patch antena but I am pretty sure you can use any patch antena with size 12mmx12mm filter builtin.
-
Thanks for getting those numbers to me. I will keep a look out and try to look at other things that may work as well.
-
zero,
can you repost the following pdf? CF_18BDKZXMM_schematic
thanks for your help. -
Kirill... Look on Rob's link above that one... You should see it there.
-
I am also unable to view either schematic.
1) Adobe says the file attachment in ZeroFlight's post "is damaged and could not be repaired."
2) The link http://www.robsnetworks.com/toughbook/CF-18 Schematic's/CF_18BDKZXMM_schematic.pdf is coming up for me as a "404 Not Found."
Thank you. -

Would anyone have a link to it that works?? -
Do you have an email address to which I can send CF-18 documents?
-
I found the Schematic through a little artful digging, thanks.
Happy to pass on copies to anyone still needing one. -
I'd appreciate it if you could send me the schematics, thanks!
Edit: Thank you very much! -
hello

don't worry about gmgfarrand, I already dropped him a service manual
-
Long story short to all the newcomers here... (all the normal old guys know this already) - Panasonic came at me with a flaming stick threatening to sue me about all the manuals that I had posted so I had to delete them
.
Their is still quite a bit available at http://www.toughbooktalk.com/public_downloads/ - only the stuff that is legal to have(that replaced robsnetworks.com/toughbook - which redirects to the other link now
)
-
Yeah... Rob... You are the best for giving it a shot. I guess they don't want to be sued or have to fix something under warranty for someone who dowloaded a bad/wrong manual and tried to fix it themselves. How many times have we heard about someone downloading the incorrrect driver from someone who swears they have the right one?
And if you are a savvy, techy you still know where to go! -
Is there any one can do me a favor send this http://go.notebookreview.com/?id=525X832&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.robsnetworks.com%2Ftoughbook%2FCF-18%2520Schematic's%2FCF_18BDKZXMM_schematic.pdf to me?
my email : [email protected]. Many thanks -
Hey guys,
anyone still have that schematic? Thread might be dead but just wanted to ask! Thanks a bunch.

I don't have pcb board right now but I can tell you that the gps con..tor is located near the center of the pcb and the blutooth is near corner end with the white two header connector. I don't remember the connector tag no. but I am pretty sure the location of each connector header.
ohlip -
Ohlip,
Thank you. From your discription of the board. Have worked out the connectors.
The Bluetooth header on this board is marked CN7
The GPS herder is on this board is marked CN5. -
Thanks in advance -
