So recently I upgraded my CF-18BD with an ND motherboard. Overall it's been a great success, my tablet feels like a young computer again. But... no sound.
My soundcard entirely fails to appear in the Device Manager. If I attempt to force driver install through the Add Hardware wizard it gives me error 10 - as if the device isn't there at all. I checked out this thread, and the solution to similar symptoms was replacing the ribbon connector. Neither of the two I've tried worked - yet they do work with the old motherboard - so I'm pretty sure that's not the problem...
Could it simply be that the soundcard from a Mk1 isn't compatible with the Mk5 motherboard?
In case it's a clue, the modem failed to install too. But I can live without that!

Seems like there was a post by Ohlip (Teo) in I think threads about what is compatible with what. I think it was for the CF-29 but it may apply and sound was particularly mentioned. Maybe I can find it.
You wouldn't have access to a Linux Live CD would you? The different drivers are resident in the program and installed for the device that the Linux OS sees for each session.
I had bad sound troubles a while back/ two marks and the cure for me was factory install cds. Magic.

Thanks a lot for that, Gork! That's a useful thread, I wish I'd come across it earlier.
So now I just need to find a new soundcard...
Do you think this may also explain the modem not working? Neither the one that come with the Mk5 board nor the original seem to be recognized. Could it be dependent on the sound card? -
I've seen some dependency issues mentioned. Are you using TEST site:forum.notebookreview.com/panasonic - Google Search?
Azrial came up with it, the sly pig, and if you lose it you can always find it in the signature on his posts.
I have it on my tool bar. Just put something in place of the word test. As far as the dependency issues I have just seen them in passing. And I do believe that they are related. Just as the Touchpad and Touchscreen are related in Ubuntu as both are seen as PS/2 Mouse. The system sorts them out. Another analogy would be the jumpy cursor issue with GPS in MS. There was a fix because the system was seeing GPS input as mouse movements. I digress.
Good luck with it. -
That is a much better way to search. What's up with the site's own system?
I can't find anything about such a dependency though, which surprises me. It's easy to imagine a soft modern piggybacking on the abilities of a soundcard. Perhaps one driver needs the other: I note here that the sound driver is supposed to be installed before the modem one.
Well there area couple going on Ebay. If they turn out to be the right model I could soon have sound again!
Unless I have to reinstall the drivers all over... :c -
Having the lack of a proper search tool is a pain
The sticky links are a help, but we do tend to go off-topic in our threads and info is generaly spread around different threads -
Does anyone know an easy way to spot the difference between the two sound cards in pictures? I'm finding vendors are often not sure what they have.

The MK1 CF-18 sound card has long red cable for speaker that extend up to the dim area while the MK2 and above has none.
