I had a complete CF-18 system (CF-18BDAZXMM) who was upgraded from a touchscreen to a Digitizer, then the north american motherboard was replaced with one from a CF-18 that was sold in europe. It's original model was CF-18FDH25VE.
Anyways, I have done a fresh install of XP Tablet 2005 (Our shop had access to the unbranded install disc that was on MSDN thorugh recycling connections so we can install XP tablet on any tablet, regardless of OEM) but now I have to install all the support drivers (digitizer and some of the Panasonic OEM bits) and I'm totally confused.
The old model is not really valid anymore (I was also swapping parts between another CF-18 so save for some of he basic stuff like the LCD and hard drive, everything else has changed) and the new one is about the same and apparently the configurator has troubles translating EU models.
What should I be looking for here. I'm totally lost when it comes to which software I should be downloading. (I hate sub-models....)

Actually, all the support files are based upon the motherboard, so now, effectively, you have a CF-18 Mk3.

Use these instructions to determine the file numbers you need:

    Download Details:Title: [ Install Instructions ]
    Model Number: CF-18F/G/H (mk3)
Operating System: Windows XP Tablet 2005
    Language: English (North America)
    Last Updated Date: 2005/05/25
    H-2005-0093.pdf [0.06 mb]
This file is self-expandable on any Toughbook model‚ but the drivers
can only be installed (used) on the applicable model number.

Then start here to downoad all the relative drivers:

TOUGHBOOK Support - Search Downloads using All Drivers --> Fully-rugged --> CF-18F/G/H (mk3) --> Windows XP Tablet 2005 --> English (North America) to get to the correct downloads page.

    Ah, fantastic! Thanks.
I wasn't able to find gps_18_3_d030336.exe but I found gps_18_3_d030324.exe which is close enough. Same went with a few more components but they were all for the Mk. III anyways so they should work.
I couldn't find meitbman_18_3_d030326.exe which was the button manager but I was able to find meitbman_18_4_d030326.exe which is for the CF-18K but I don't know if they are compatible and google searching the right file yeilds the PDF I'm reading from same goes for meitbtn_18_3_d030421.exe which is the tablet buttons driver.
Slightly related to that, either something is not right here or my digitizer is WAY out of whack.
The system knows the wacom digitizer is there but the pen really does nothing unless you wave it around in a few tiny areas, notably around the recycle bin in the lower right corner and only moves horixontally. Is this driver related or more related to an entry in the system log:

    Code:
    Source: WacomPen Catagory: None
    Type: Error Event ID:11
    Description: Failed writing registry value
It's a one time event that happened around this morning when I was loading the system with drivers using a tool at the office we call the Cobra Driver Pack. As well and with the digitizer being as mindless as it is, I can't even calibrate the thing. I don't think I damaged the digitizer when I peeled it off the old broken LCD and transplanted it onto a good one. I tried not to flex the board.

GPS Registry Patch Application: CF-18F/G/H (mk3)

Pay close attention to this caveat from the Installation Instructions:

Only when the computer is GPS model, please install.

When installing in the computer which is not GPS model,
there is a possibility that the problem occurs on the serial device.

as your original configuration ( CF-18BDAZXMM) does not show to be factory GPS equipped:

Pentium M 900MHz(Centrino), 10.4" XGA Transmissive with Digitizer, 40GB HDD, 256 MB RAM, WLAN, Dual pass through antenna, Win XP Tablet PC
    MSP: $3,911.00

    Otherwise, the " X" would be " A" (GPS: MSP $4,311.00) or " C" (GPS + Bluetooth: MSP $4,511.00).

Tablet Button Manager Applicatio: CF-18F/G/H (mk3)

Yes, GPS and bluetooth are options on my system however I have a GPS + USB bluetooth adapter in the mail so for now the files pertaining to the two items are sitting on my desktop and waiting to be installed after the hardware is in place.
Hmm, I tried the button manager download you supplied and:

    Huh. Okay. That wasn't expected.
I was able to update the wacom support though with no improvement so I'll open the screen up and take a look inside.

EDIT: Made it to the office and cracked the screen opened and it seems the digitizer controller was partially disconnected from the digitizer. Reseating it fixed the pen issues and all that is working now so all that's funky is the front buttons, which require those two files I'm having trouble with.

On the drivers and buttons thread that I linked to read my post #58 for instructions
You may have to start over as the drivers have to be installed in exact order or some functions wil not work
Use Winwar and extract the driver files that say this machine does not support

I'm sorry but by the fifth line I'm having trouble understanding what you are trying to do.

It will be quite obvious when you look in device manager as you will see (2) unknown devices
If you don't see them ,you must start over with a fresh load of xp
I spend hours of trial and error to get eveything working
Makes me appreciate the recovery disks as they load these perfect without any fussing around

There is one unknown device, and chances are, it's there because meitbtn_18_3_d030421.exe is not installed because I still don't know where to download it, and at the same time the supposedly correct button manager application that was linked to earlier is saying it's not designed for my toughbook.

    CF-18 Mk3 Tablet Buttons Driver (meitbtn_18_3_d030421.exe) download.

And as to the Button Manager, obviously, one of these should work: :)

Tablet Button Manager Applications; CF-18 TOUGHBOOKs :

    Mk1 driver download
    Mk2 driver download
    Mk3 driver download
    Mk4 driver download
    Mk5 driver download

Be sure to let us know which one works. ;)

    Nope.
They all state "this machine does not support".
As an experiment, I quickly made another install of XP tablet on another hard drive, then tried installing the driver and manager on the clean slate.
    Nope. No dice.
Tried with every other file as well.
    Bizarre. :/

I finally discovered that the files can be extracted manually using WinRAR so I was able to bypass the check and run it from there. Everything works now and thanks for the links and pointers.

That's why I pointed it out
The odd model has issues with drivers and the workaround is to force the correct driver

Congrats to you on getting everything working , there as so many drivers on these tablet models to fuss with
