Hi, I have a CF-18 mk4 with 512mb of ram built-in. From what I gather, the 915 chipset supports a maximum of 2gb ddr2 ram. Since there are no 1.5gb chips that I know of, would it be useful to add a 2gb chip, sacrificing 500mb of it, but nonetheless getting the actual maximum amount of RAM this chipset supports?
Does that make sense?
I'm running Windows 7, if that has any relevance.
Thanks!

I think this can be found by searching, quite a bit of these issues have already been explored. I believe the BIOS of the CF18 toughbooks only allows for a maximum of 1.5GB (including the built in RAM). So essentially the max upgrade is one DDR2 1GB chip. Most people on here reccomend Kingston ram, I have had good luck with that as well.

Does anyone know definitively if the BIOS of the CF-18 mk4 is limited to 1.5gb?
The chipset supports 2gb. -
I will try to install a 2 gb module in my cf-18 mk-5 tonite
I will let you know

You can use a Crucial 1GB DDR2 stick.... EOS

Any word on the results?
Thanks! -
Yes It failed
512MB on board with a add-on of 2GB = 1.5GB on my Cf-18 mk-5

Thanks! Good to know. =)

Did you try the 2 gb or 1 gb in the CF-18 MK4? I have a CF-18KHHZBBM that I am looking at adding mem too. I have been told the unit will only support up to 1gb. The manual calls for DDR PC2-3200 1.8V.
I see some 1 gb or 2 gb mem chips with the same stats and wonder if either of these will work instead of 512k.
Thanks

Jason
Go with a 1GB module , the manual is correct
I beleve that a ddr2 pc-4200 chip or ddr2-5300 chip will be compatable
