Hi all,
Finally got my CF-18 and have found that there is no audio at all out of the speaker or rear headphone jack. The serial # is CF-18KCHMBVM. I've reloaded the Sigma C-Tel driver ok and it reports no issues so I don't think it's a connection issue at present on the audio board.
Should the 'system speaker' show 'no drivers' under 'system devices' in device manager ?
All help appreciated.
Thanks
Andy
PS.. Have also noticed that the sound function keys (F4,5 & 6) don't have any effect on the volume slider in the audio settings.

The system speaker no drivers is correct
under sound video and game controlers I show 6 items
1 is SigmaTel
C-Major
And Fn+F4 shows on screen as muteing Vol -
make sure your internal speaker is connected to cn(37) terminal coz mine when I received it was connected to cn(36) and the other wire is connected to cn(37) suppose to be on CN(36). I've got no sound and there are no problem report on the device manager which is wrong maybe someone don't know what they are doin and the result the speaker was damaged (death) I replaced the speaker from a sony unit. It works but the sounds are creepy but I can live with for the moment in time till I got a replacement one.

Hi,
Checked the speaker connection & that's fine. From reading this & the other CF-18 audio post I think that I'm missing some drivers as I only have the SigmaTel under Sound controllers. So, question is which file do I need to get them. I've already reinstalled the SigmaTel driver so it's not that one. Any suggestions ?
Thanks,
Andy
Update : Found the multimedia drivers in the WDM folder, tried to install them but I get a windows error. Do you think that it may be because the machine is running Vista ? -
Andy
The last post helps the most as you have now stated that you are running vista.
You can try a lot of different combinations to get Vista to work on your Mk-4
Uninstall the sound card driver and then reinstall.
Try combinations of a wxp pro clean install and then run a vista upgrade, or a fresh install of vista.
You should be able to get it working properly , Just make sure you max out the ram.
My cf-19 uses 1.00gb of ram just at idle on vista.

Hi Tomcat,
The machine had Vista on it when I bought it. May be I'll reformat the disk and go back to Xp Tablet. It has a serial number sticker on the back for it already. I did try the install/un install/install as per the Vista upgrade info off the Panasonic site. Still doesn't work
Cheers,

Do you have the software on hand for tablet?
-
Nope.. need to get a copy of XpTablet before I can make a start on the machine.... and an external CD as well. Any suggestions on which brand of external CD works the best on the CF-18 ?
Thanks,

Andy
This is an inexpensive generic usb drive that I use.

If you can’t find a tablet xp version to restore, you can use xp and just add the wacom digitizer drivers.
Thats what I have done on my mk-2 cf-18 digitizer

Hi Tomcat,
Brother-in-law came through and has got me XpTablet
Is it best to format the HDD and reload from scratch or just install Xp over Vista ?
I assume that if I format the HDD then the Bios will still boot from the external CD to install the new OS ?
Sorry for all the questions... been a long time since I've done this... last time was with Win98 using floppy's
Thanks,
Andy -
Andy
You select boot to usb cd rom in the bios boot tab.
You can format the hard drive with the Microsoft tablet pc disk, when you boot to it.
Do a full ntfs format.

Thanks Alex,
Going to get a usb CD this afternoon if the local shop has one. I've got a decent Gamber Johnson vehicle mount waiting to be installed in my 4x4 for GPS mapping. Would like to get out and try it before the snow comes to town.... and it's already snowing on the local mountains !
Cheers,

Did you say snow?
I live on Vancouver Island and will probably see some snow in December or January.
Heres a pic of a friends vehicle in which I sold a cf-18
It replaced a lowrance intergraded gps chart display that failed continually.
He said he had been in white-out conditions a few times and said that bread crumbs dont work to good either.
He wanted something reliable and the cf-18 toughbook was the answer.

Have got my Xp tablet CD's burned & downloaded all 29 drivers off the Panasonic site. Anything else I need before I start ?
Thanks,

Its been awhile , and I load so many different toughbooks ,but one thing to watch for is the wifi folder.
It some times contains other drivers and applications that are duplicated with the other downloads.
Read the faq if available for your model.
I load the os disk first
Windows updates up to sp-3 next
Then tackle all those driver files and Panasonic applications
The first driver that I install is the mb driver
Some of these models want the wifi installed next before misc drivers and the wireless switch utility, but to be sure read the faq.

Hi Alex,
The 'mb driver'.... you mean the 'os inf driver' ?
Thanks,

Hi Alex,
All formatted, reloaded, drivered & service packed
Only have a '!' against the WWAN card now & that'll be coming out to make way for an EM408 gps module that's on it's way from Sparkfun.
Thanks for all your help !!
