I have never been able to get the touchpad scroll function to work at all on either of my 2 CF-18D's. I just thought it must be some driver issue and I would look at it one day.
Well that day has come and I simply can't get it to work. I have the factory XP restore CDs, and even then, it just doesn't work. I'm using driver 2.2.4.2003 which is the latest download for this model on panasonic.jp site (and is already installed from restore CDs anyway).
I have been using laptops with touchpads for years, so I can't really do without this scroll function. Please help.

I've had a few like this.
1. Do the scroll feature not work AT ALL? Or just in some applications? Does it work on the web but not in Word?
2. Have you cleaned the space between the touchpad and the frame around it? -
Yeah, there is no scrolling function at all, its all just one big touchpad. I have tried scrolling in explorer, acrobat and ie.
I have cleaned out the edges of the pad with a piece of paper.
I did see mention of the problem on other series of TB, but they said things like "make sure you define the scroll region big enough" and stuff like that, but the touchpad/touchscreen driver I have doesn't provide these options. -
On my CF-28 under mouse properties> touchpad I have a checkbox for "IntelliMouse Wheel Mode" which when checked enables the scroll function. What do you have in that dialog?
-
Here is a picture from a mouse property tab in my cf-18 mk-2 showing what tough-2-go is talking about
I have the correct drivers , and everything works

There is also a setting under the driver (myComp->manage->device manager->maouse->touchpad/touchscreen->advanced settings) it has a few options...
1. "assume wheel is present" - default setting.
2. "Look for wheel" - no change.
3. "Detection disabled". - no change.
There is also a "Fast Initialisation" checkbox, which has no change to the scrolling problem, and it also seems to cause the touchSCREEN to stop working when unchecked.
I need to look into this a bit more now, maybe try some different drivers. I guess I just needed clarification that scrolling is actually supposed to work, which I have now thanks.
But are those 3 programs ok for (vertical) scrolling - explorer, acrobat and ie? -
Ooohhh oohh ohh, update....
It works if I hook my fingernail under the rightmost edge of the TP and scroll. Not very practical, but at least that is progress.
Now I just need to find out how to define the scroll area to make it bigger, hmmm. -
Interesting, I have never had to make any special adjustments to define the scroll area it usually just works on loading and checking the aforementioned box. There may be a problem with the hardware or someone may have trashed the registry settings. I would revert back to a standard ps2 mouse then reload the driver ensuring it is the correct one for your model.

Sample rate 100
assume wheel is present
Input buffer length 100
Fast Imitation is checked. And has no effect for me on touchscreen like you describe
Driver Date is 04/04/2003
Version 2.2.4,2003
Downloaded from the Japan Panasonic site for my mk-2 touchscreen wxp pro sp2
The wheel scroll is not adjustable for width as far as I know
I had that feature on the circular mousepad on my cf-f8
On my cf-18 its about a finger width

hmmm i have the same thing. i can get intellimouse to work with my nail stuck into the side of the pad.... but otherwise no scroll...

I was going to suggest that maybe the touchpad itself was replaced with a non-compatible one. I had this on one of mine and bought a new touchpad and it seemed to work fine after that. In retrospect, I never tried using the fingernail under the side though. I think it was TEO a while back that said in a pinch, he used an IBM touch for one of his machines and got it to work, but for the scroll function. Perhaps if its not a panny one, the size is different?

Good point Doobi
The Oz cf-18's were well used
Does the touchpad look too new for the overall condition of the cf-18?

Ok I need some more help please...
I have peeled off the palmrest and cleaned the touchpad, and still the problem is there. My latest line of thinking is that the Oz toughbooks don't get set up properly with their restore image.
So I need someone with working scroll on a CF-18D to export and post their following registry key (XPPro).
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Fujitsu Takamisawa\FIDMOUPS2\V2.0]
Mine is as follows...
Code:[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Fujitsu Takamisawa\FIDMOUPS2\V2.0] "XL"="80" "XH"="930" "YL"="100" "YH"="860" "Pointer Speed"=dword:00000004 "Pointer Acc"=dword:00000002 "SCROLL speed"=dword:00000003 "SCROLL x"=dword:00000000 "SCROLL y"=dword:00000001 "Tap"=dword:00000001 "Double"=dword:00000001 "Drag"=dword:00000001 "Lock"=dword:00000000 "Lock Off"=dword:00000000 "Lock Off Time"=dword:000007d0 "swap"=dword:00000000 "Type Off"=dword:00000000 "Type Off Time"=dword:00000bb8 "WHEEL mode"=dword:00000001 "SMI delay"=dword:000003e8 "ABS delay"=dword:000003e8 "filter"="0" "res"="2" "Option"=dword:01000501 "Type"=dword:00000010 "Transfer"=dword:003c0003 "TPmodel"=dword:00000001 "TPDoubleClick"=dword:10100258 "TPRButton"=dword:00000001 "TPTandR"=dword:02000600 "Caldata"=hex:7b,17,81,01,f2,07,72,0e,4f,01,c7,07,25,0e,6b,2e,a7,01,aa,1e,5e,\ 00,57,2f,c5,fe,a3,2a,28,02,aa,7e,86,02,29,2d,c5,be,b5,2b,2a,02,a1,de,ce,01,\ 27,2d,cb,7e,27,2d,b8,00,98,3e,52,04,a1,2a,ba,be,d7,30,13,02,a9,be,43,02,9d,\ 34,a0,de,6b,2e,5e,00,9a,5e,5e,00,f1,31,b1,9e,b3,2f,5e,00,90,1e,79,04,f1,31,\ d8,3e,b7,2b,52,04,91,1e,cc,01,b7,2b,d6,be

Here you go

No difference there - except you don't have "Caldata", but you might not have calibrated your screen or something. Anyway, I deleted my Caldata so the registry is the same, and still, fingernail scrolling only.
Hmmm, maybe I could try different drivers, maybe some that have a definable scroll area? Any suggestions as to which ones to try? -
I would suggest a clean installation of the OS if you haven't already... But quite frankly... And from what I've heard and seen of the "Toughbooks From OZ" it is just plain 'ole worn out... You may have to replace the entire touchpad. I don't think they are horrendously expensive.

I've had many toughbooks where the scroll works only to the very edge of the touchpad... You must use your fingernail to scroll it. Others where it doesn't work at all... Or in between where the scroll area just seems to be worn out. All these are on fresh installs using recovery disks. The problems that I had could not be software related as it was factory spec installs.
If you set up the OS per Capt.Dogfishes post... Then it must be a hardware issue. If you are using the OS straight as you received it with the weird OS loaded the way they were selling them on ebay... I would say it may be a software issue.
The only way to know for sure... Is to reload the OS per proven steps and see if it works. Without doing that... You may never know for sure and will rabbit chase this issue til the cows come home. Just my opinion...
