well recently on my service bench at work, i had a problem where my Cro would have some nasty interfearance. in an effort to find it i started to unplug all my gear leaving my toughbook last (gotta have those tunes!) anyway to cut a long story short. unplugged toughbook and interferance is now gonskis. is this normal for a toughbook charger or should i be sending it back for replacement (the laptop was purchased used, but working, with 1 year warrenty)

I never have that issue and play my iPod less than 2 feet away from 4-8 Toughbook AC Adapters all plugged in. Is it an aftermarket adapter? If so then that may be your issue! I have had multiple issues with aftermarket adapters.

I've run across those cheap aftermarket power supplies that start ticking, then they crap out.

    did you notice any ticking?

I'd check your power there; it sounds like a ground fault. Start by checking your outlets with one of these, available cheaply at any Sears or Homeowner He!! type store:

    http://www.toolking.com/products/68100039.aspx?googlebase=400-029

Then, if you have a VOM, I'd check the AC cord on the power adapter for a broken ground conductor, and finally, check for both AC and DC voltage from the shield side of the power output connector on the AC adapter to ground.

If your cord and your power outlets test good, then I'd say your AC adapter does indeed have an internal fault; try replacing the AC cord to be sure, but start looking for another adapter soon.

well ok i had a look at the charger

insulation check passed, earth leakage checks passed.. tried the charger in my service room and it interfeared with the telephone system at work and my cro was very noisy. Checked the unit with my RF Radhaz meter for s and giggles and its gone off the charts....so now it looks like im up for 4 week savings

4 weeks savings for an AC adapter? Or for the RF RadHaz?
