Hi All, Ive just got myself a good used CF-18 after using a CF-72 for many years. The CF-18 has a 60Gb hard drive in that is not big enough for what I need, I would like to go to 120-160Gb what would you guys recommend. I also would like to replace or clean the screen protector, I have seen somewhere that if I peel it off I can wash it and put it back on, its that true ??

    Thanks
    Steve

Steve... First off... Welcome to the forum!
As to the hard drive... A lot of us use the 160GB Samsung Spinpoint IDE, 5400RPM hard drive. Usually around $60 or less USD. It seems perfect for what I do and are readily available.

As to the screen protector... You can try washing it carefully with either a NEW microfiber towel and a little water sprayed on the screen or you can carefully peel it off and apply a new one. Unless it is severely scratched... I'd stay with what you have. I sometimes use a special mix of about 7%-10% Isopropyl Alcohol (91% grade) then fill the rest of the spray bottle up with water and top off with a few (5-10) drops of liquid hand soap. This makes a great multi-purpose cleaner. If you get a new screen protector... Either heartlandsi.com to get the bonified Panasonic protector... Or "screenpatronous" has the best ones I've seen other than Panny ones...

We're always around if you have questions... Just let us know..

Hi Thanks for the info. I don’t really want a Samsung as I have had 3 360Gb sata's fail on my desktop so I don’t really trust them, maybe the 2.5 ide's are better. The screen protector is ok but it’s coming away at the edges a tiny bit, the main problem is I have a problem seeing it in daylight

I can recommend Western Digital & Seagate drives . . Although some 7200rpm drives get a little hot - I'm not sure if 7200 rpm drives give any better performance over 5400 rpms in a CF - 18 ?

    Perhaps someone on here knows

    I'm currently using a Seagate Momentus 5400.3 160Gb IDE (8Mb cache)
Runs very fast, silent, and cool !

Hitachi was the last maker of good 7200rpm, 2.5" IDE hard drives... They quit making them a little over a year ago. They were pretty fast in the CF-28 with maxed RAM.... But they ate into battery life a little more...

I know... But you accessed your data faster so you got the same amount of work done... :)
