Ok I set BIOS to run system from CD/DVD drive but when I attach my old USB CD drive or new Samsung DVD recorder nothing happens with bootable CD/DVD. No "Booting from CD" or something like that.

Does your cd/dvd have one or two USB plugs? If it has only one, you may not have enough voltage to run, if it has two, try reversing the plugs into which port you have them. When I run my DVD on an CF-18 install, the DVD will only work one way.

Personally I have an older PCmcia targus cdrom and it's saved my butt many times with laptops that have no internal optical drive that will not boot from a USB cdrom, maybe check eBay for one.

    Good luck

You may want to check that your USB ports function in all other respects.

Buy another drive for CF18? Oh no! All USB ports works well.

Do you know how to activate Fn keys under Windows Seven? Driver installed correctly. Video driver does not work properly - Seven tries install again and again, maybe better change to generic VGA?

I tried to install the 945 video driver on my 18 with W7, but never could get it right. I just went with the standard video and it works fine. Granted, it does revert back to the 800x600 when you power down, but it is no problem to change the resolution.

My CF-18 powers on automatically when hibernated and when I release power plug. Why? Also battery is always charging 95%. This can shorten its life?

Go to the Control Panel and click on Power Options. Go in and set up your profile for both on AC and on battery. There are several options and you set everything up the way you want.

After configuring the BIOS and setting the boot order, I haven't had a problem booting from a USB CD/DVD drive, though that drive has its own power supply.

Have you seen the "HOWTO" thread on Installing Windows 7 on a CF-18 mk1 (linked in the stickied Ultimate Toughbook Resource thread)?

The video issue you noted is a common problem with the Intel 82852/82855 under Windows 7, but the steps in that thread have enabled me to perform multiple video setups and keep Windows 7 from rolling back to 800x600. Each step is important--if things aren't done "just so," Windows 7 will (as you've seen) roll back the driver, leaving you at 800x600 (again).

Unfortunately, it's not the most straightforward process....
