First off, Howdy from Northern Minnesota!
Found this group three Toughbooks and less that a year ago, I have learned more about the CF-29s than any other computer I have owned. It has become a daily must read.
Moving the addiction on to the CF-18. Picked up a CF-18 DHAZXKM. Read a number of threads on installing operating system without the recovery set (still looking to purchase). Having an xp disk form a Dull I figured I would give it a go and worry about the drivers later.
Using a LG USB drive, and the Dull XP Pro disk, after the Panny splash screen.
Windows Setup - loading files
Windows Setup - starting windows
Welcome to setup - select set up Windows XP - agree to agreement
Then it shows list of existing partitions
38155 MB Disk 0 at ID 0 on bus 0 on atapi
(Setup cannot access this disk)
Then message a problem has been detected and windows has been shut down.![]()
Still looking for set of Recovery disks CF-18DHAZXKM
Question: Is the 40 gb hard drive bad?
Is this what happens when the CF-18 does not like the USB drive?
Still looking for set of Recovery Disks![]()
Thanks again for a great forum!

check with JB007Rules as he may have what you're looking for either in compressed form or"otherwise". I had similar issues and had found the recovery discs and used a soony usb DRX 820U that would allow loading the OS. You can't rush the loading in quick changing the disc in their 1-2-3 order. It takes a little time for them to get spun up and going so be patient. Also you may get an error message and have to eject them and retry to get the disc to perform correctly. You may get one of these soonys off of fleabay for a reasonable price. Oh yes, look at JB007Rules website listed at his postings as it will give you his toughbook talk link. There is also a guy Mark Hawkins on fleabay that may list some of the recovery disc as well. The moderators may also have them, but you have to have 15 or more postings to PM them or go to the buy sell forum here. hope this helps.......Driller

Any Ideas on what I'm doing wrong? or Is the Hard Drive Bad? -
Check the boot order - the unit is trying to boot from LAN. Make sure the hard disk is higher then LAN in the boot order (in the BIOS - or to save messing, just load the default settings from the exit tab of the BIOS and then save & reboot). The hard disk shouldn't be broken if the recovery disk managed to run successfully.

Boot order is set as
USB cd/dvd drive
Hard Disk Drive
Floppy Drive
Lan
Also it never asked for disk 2 or 3 of the set. It should have correct?
Just went right to the [Recovery] is complete almost instantly.
Hard Disk Data Erase Utility running now, showing job status.

showed up immediately, that cannot be good -
Sounds like a hard drive issue. Get yourself a nice new Samsung HM160HC on FleaBay for about $55 and you won't regret it.
-
Got the hm160hc in and humming along.
Install went smooth with the recovery disks.
Now to save on shipping I got two hm160hc. So next problem which CF29 is gonna get a new drive hahahaha.
Thanks for the help.
The addiction continues...
