Well, I am just blown away by this. I have Ubuntu 8.04 on my CF-18 Mk1 with touchscreen. Today I was cleaning the screen, and I soon noticed that the touchscreen was responding to the pressure of the cleaning action. I quickly got out my stylus, and confirmed that the touchscreen was working, and that it was also calibrated well enough to click web-links (Edit, after a bit more use, it needs calibration.......anyone know how??).
Reason for the amazement: I have had Ubuntu on the machine for the last couple of weeks, and despite deliberately trying to invoke touch, nothing was happening at all !! Suddenly, it seems to have started working.

Anyway, here's the exact process I used to get to where I am today:
1...A fresh install of Xubuntu 8.04, using the Live CD, not the alternate install.
2...I got the Hotkeys working by applying the driver from here:
using the instructions from Posts 1 and 7 on this page:
I attempted no other mods as mentioned in Post 1 at all.
    3...I then did a
    sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop
So I have both a Ubuntu and a Xubuntu environment.
4...I performed no other pertinent mods to the OS or the hardware (I have dickered with the Wifi, and written a couple of scripts to manage it better during Suspend/Resume though). Can't imagine how that could have any effect on getting the touchscreen to work.

The whole build of the OS was done in the last 4 or 5 days, (it's April 9th 2009 as I write this) maybe the build/drivers included need to be the very latest?

Now, I have to try and figure out which driver(s) are responsible for this, as far as I am aware, and I have read up on it quite a bit, the current builds of Ubuntu and Xubuntu don't even contain touchscreen drivers.

If anyone else wants to try and duplicate this on a cf-18, I would be very interested in their findings. Ubuntu is a great OS on this machine, especially NOW !!!
