My notebook is CF-18BDAZXMM. The hard drive that came with it died, so I bought a new one. I don't have a tablet XP disc so I just used my XP home disk from my desktop. I went to Panasonic and downloaded all the latest drivers and burned them to disc. When I go to device manager, it doesn't show the wireless part at all, only the Realtek RTL8139 Family PCI Fast Ethernet NIC.
Also in device manager I have a big list of "other devices" even though I used my burned driver disc and ran all the set up files. I have no sound or wireless.
These are the drivers I downloaded and burned to disc:
Wireless LAN Driver
CheckNet Application Update
Video Driver Update
CF-VEB181 LAN Driver Update
Wireless LAN Switch Application
Sound Driver (exports but has no exe)
OS INF file Driver
Intel Display Rotation Application
Hotkey Plus Manager Application
Pretty much nothing works.

Some of the drivers you unzip may require that you find or create the folder and then install them manually. Others may require that you update a present driver that is already installed.
Just a thought... -
Alright, turns out that I needed to use the old files, not the updated ones. I got the wireless and sound working. But my function keys don't work. I want to turn the brightness all the way down. I have the hot keys manager, hot keys plus manager, and hot key index. All I have is a small option to enable sticky function key and make sounds. But I can't actually use the function keys yet.
I also have now 2 unknown devices and I seriously don't know what they are. -
This might or might not be applicable to your Mk-1 digitizer.
On my cf-18 mk-2 digitizer
This is what is listed in add or remove programs related Panasonic files
Agere Systems AC97 Modem
Battery Recalibration
Cpu idle setting
Display rotation tool
Dmi viewer
Hotkey Appendix
Hotkey Driver for Panasonic Pc
Hotkey Plus manager
Intel Extreme graphics driver
Panasonic Common Components
Panasonic Misc Driver
Pc information Driver
Pen Tablet ( This is a wacom file downloaded from wacom for the digitizer to function as I have installed wxp pro not the tablet pc as this model originally was shipped from factory)
Tablet Button manager
Touchpad
Wireless Switch utility
All items in device manager work with no! Shown
This is the link for the digitizer driver from wacom

oooh, very nice. I was afraid I lost the tablet functions forever. (Though I have found out that like all MS products, tablet PC sucks horse balls).
I don't have half those things. I'll have to find those items online later when I have time.
EDIT: I have found and installed the correct drivers and now pretty much everything works. The only thing that isn't working is the display rotation button on the laptop, so I have to double tap the annoyingly hard-to-hit icon in the system tray. But it really doesn't matter cuase this thing is going to be stuffed in the patrol car. Also I no longer have "other devices" in device manager, they are all named and working.
The toughbook is performing leagues better than every thought possible. When I got it, it was plagued with Norton Internet Security, other BS, and a failing hard drive. Starting up took upwards of 15 minutes and starting word about 5. Now it starts up in less than 10 seconds and word opens in about 1.
Thank you everyone. This forum has been very helpful on my quest. I'm quite proud of myself, this was the first laptop and driver restoration I've done. -
Right click on the Desktop and go to the Graphics Options. in the Intel Display settings, there's a checkbox to "Enable Rotation". Why they don't have it checked by default, I'll never understand, but until it is checked, the rotation button won't work.

I need to install the Panasonic Misc Driver but can't seem to work out how. It's just an inf file and I don't know which hardware item it should go with. -

Note post 58 as it has good info
If you need more detailed or if you are still having problems, post your cf18 model number , and I will look closer for your issues

tomcat57, what's the model number on your cf18 digi ? is it a cf18DD ?
-
It is your hotkey driver. If you look up your model number on one of the posted sites in the stickies you will find it. The stickies also show you how to update hotkey via Device Manger and "Update driver" command.

I have a cf-18 mk-2 model # cf18DHAZXBM Its a canadian market touchscreen with an obsolete sierra wireless 555 wwan built-in

Thanks. Actually a whole bunch of fruitless work landed me at the panasonic toughbook configurator page. I was looking to see if the cf18dd actually existed and I came across your post. Turns out it does. If you go to http://config.toughbook.com/ and throw any model number in there on the right you can find out what's in your toughbook.
Only problem is it doesn't state whether it is a MK1, 2, 3, 4 etc... It gets pretty confusing. I have a whole bunch of recovery/restore disks and I'm going crazy trying to sort through all of them without calling laptop5 all the time. -
If you go to the correct Panasonic website where you must create a login in order to download the correct drivers.... There is a drop-down box that has the MK#s in parenthesis' and is easy to see what model you have as well as being able to download the correct driver.
You can go HERE to find everything you need. -
If you go to the main panasonic Japan site here
http://pc-dl.panasonic.co.jp/cgi-bin/itn/toughbook/dl01.cgi
It lists the mk#s referencing to the model numbers
As far as finding out the correct restore disks
Look for the number DFQX---------
That number is directly below the name panasonic on the coa thats on the bottom of your toughbook
As it has to match with the DFQX-------- number on the restore disks for the disks to work

F-in Awesome. You guys are great.

OK here's the deal. Toughbook Moderator you're right on with your suggestion about creating the account on panasonics website, that was exactly what i was looking for.
Tomcat, I've got a 74 in my hand that has dfqx3a00xa as my restore disk number. but the restore disks that came with the unit list the numbers as dfqx4048lb for xp and dfqm8370mb for vista. The number on the restore disks matches the surplus inventory sheet I get from heartland for resale. What gives ? -
It works for all but the lastest models that have xp and vista restore media
My cf19,cf30, and cf74 all have non-matching numbers, and all were provided with the laptops from panasonic new
