So, I got a usb DVD drive. Then I found out there's nowhere enough juice in the USB ports to drive it. So, I waited until I got a wall wart for it (would you think one of the slim drives needs 5v @ 3.5A??)

Then, using what I thought was XP Pro tablet PC 2005, I started. Ran into a few bugs, but I got the OS loaded. For some reason, it downgraded itself to XP.

    Now, I have two problems.

All the drivers I downloaded that worked with the initial load, when I click on them now, say CF18 NOT SUPPORTED.

And, the cursor is jumping around. Badly. I read several threads about other TB series saying its' a ballpoint serial issue, or dirt trapped. I haven't done anything to think I've disturbed that seal, so I am thinking it's the ballpoint driver.

Is this also right for the 18, or do I need to keep digging?

Thoughts? (I am trying to search the forum, but the other computer is being cranky on page load speed.)

If the cf-18 has GPS then yes the ball point driver is probably the problem there are a few thread on how to solve this be either disabling it or adding a piece of script to windows to disable it.

As for it downgrading to XP that means the serial number did not take or it would have asked for the second disk during install. The only thing that makes the XP install ask for the second Tablet disk is if the cd key is for a tablet PC.

For the drivers not working well that is a little strange. IF they are being used on the same model and they worked before then for some reason the files do not think you are using a CF-18.

    funny you mention keys...

It was bought used, of course, but running. I tried to reload using the key on the bottom. win did NOT like it at all.

It did ask for the second disk, btw (and, this is a digitizer model).

Any idea on how the drivers "know" what they are trying to be installed on?

"You can tell because it is telling you they are wrong when you tried to load it. "Model not supported" there is a rouitine on the disk that checks the model number stored in the BIOS and the MK# and the original OS must match or it will halt with the error you got. "

wonder if this is somehow related to the behavior of the drivers??

    Yeah,

I've read those a couple of times. It still doesn't explain whats' happening with the O/S refusing to take the key, and why all the drivers say they aren't on an 18.

I went to the .jp site today, d/l'd one of the drivers for XP - tablet pc, and tested it again. just doesn't like.

I may just try loading plain vanilla XP Pro on there, and seeing what difference, if any, it makes.

Well the tablet drivers will not extract on the standard xp.

If the tablet part did not install then you will need standard XP pro drivers as the tablet ones are looking for a tablet OS.

What kind of cd are you using?

Some CD's will not take OEM keys. I have a Dell cd that will not take any of my panasonic OEM keys.

Best bet is to get a OEM copy of windows not dell etc etc just OEM. Then it will load and take the key. People disagree with me when i say this but it is true most disks will not work unless it is OEM non branded.

Then when it takes the tablet OS key on the bottom it will ask for a second CD during install to make all of the tablet functions work. Then your panasonic tablet drivers will extract and should work.
