Hi gang. Just received a CF-18BDAZXMM that has a working battery and the hard drive has been wiped. I'm looking for Recovery Disks for this little one that could, but right now no one has any...I tried booting up an install of Linux on the USB as well as an ISO from an external DVD drive (Samsung) that I've used on many Dells & Mac Books to install programs. When I boot up the system, my screen reads this:
"EBAN-MBR: Disk Fingerprint (press any key to reboot)
This disk was wiped by EBAN 2.2.6....AND the dialogue goes on..."
So when I press any key to reboot (and I've adjusted the boot order to
    CD Drive
    Floppy Drive
    Hard Disk Drive
The same screen (see above) is posted. What am I doing wrong to try another OS on this until I can put XP on?
Any thoughts/suggestions appreciated. I've already read all the FAQ's on CF-18 and the owners manual.
    Regards,
    Kris
PS, the CF-29 MK2 is now up and running with XP SP1, more to follow

I don't know if it has anything to do with security on the toughbook,or possibly something to do with the TPM chip (if installed).

But it sounds like the disk was wiped securely, and then the mbr was rewritten with that junk, just as filler to make it hard to "recover" wiped data. Reset the MBR (0 track) and carry on. Look for the drive manufacturer's disk utility.

THere may be a newer way of doing it, but I refuse to go past xp, and still own dos boot disks/cd's.
If you can get to a dos promt, type "fdisk /mbr" and go from there. Be carefull, that is a dangerous switch.

Again, this was just a rectal pluck, I don't know anything about 18's. Please let someone else verify or correct me (or, you can google it solo?)

    Good luck.
