I just bought a SanDisk Cruzer 16GB flash drive and my CF-18Dwont read it. It works perfectly with a 4GB one though. When I insert the 16GB drive the light comes on then goes off. Absoulutely nothing happens in device manager. The 16 gb drive works in my otherlaptop so the drive isn't bad.
I imagine it has something to do with the power available at the USB ports.

    Any ideas?

My cruzer micro 8gb works in my cf-18D model
Perfectly in the farthest back port, and with a bit of aligning fine in the forward usb port
    I don't have a 16mb to try
Try moving it around a bit

yeah, I've tried both ports. Like I said the 4GB works fine. And the 16GB works great in my other laptop. After checking sandisk's site I wonder if it isn't a power issue.

If its a power issue you can purchase a powered usb hub
    They are about $20
I use them sometimes to be safe with external hard drives

Yeah, I realize that. I'm using this in a vehicle though.

I have had flaky drives like that. I have about 5 USB thumb drives. Some work in some desktops and laptops and some don't in others... You may need to go into Disk Management and see if you can see it or initialize it. Sometimes these drives get flaky if they have just been pulled out of another PC without going through the specific "Remove this drive" procedure. You can try hooking it up to another PC and then doing that to shut it off correctly. Worth a shot... It's worked like that for some of mine...

    Yep,

Tried all of that. It just wont work. When I insert ik in the toughbook, the light comes on on the drive for about 3 seconds then goes off. There isn't so much as a flicker from the toughbook though. Nothing shows up under USB indevice manger or in disk management.
