Here's the deal,I put a 1 gb dtick of ram in my CF-18 to test,no boot so I put the old stick back and.....dead as a hammer..

No boot,no lights, nothing. Digital multimeter shows power at the board and the switch after I took the bottom off so the ac adapter is good. I don't have a wiring diagram for the power circuit so here we sit.

It worked great until I put that doggone ram stick in,can't see how that would fry it but I ain't no expert. So any ideas would be great, nice 18 but only $32 invested so no tears will be shed, thanks.

Did you try booting it up without the ad on ram? Just the bultin one. My guess is you installed the ram with the main battery still inplace.

Did you just pull the cover, or did you pull the whole back off?

Pulled the entire back off to check for power to the board,I will pull all the ram and try to boot.

And nothing,no lights, dead. I'm bumming because the is a very nice 18 that was up and running, just needed touchscreen fixed. I am assuming the failure is just one of those things as opposed to I fried it. I guess maybe it was it's turn to go.

But any other ideas would be great, thanks for the responses so far.

Try this if nothing else works. Unplug the whole motherboard, including bios batter, give the motherboard a few minutes out and then put it back in. I got 3 CF-18's that were dead in the past back to working doing that. I was getting "nothing" on them. I pulled the board to look it over. Everything looked ok. Put it back in and bam, everything worked. I did the exact same thing on the other to "dead" units and they worked. Gave one to a friend of mine and it is still going strong. I have also told two different people who have had "dead" problems and they came back saying it worked. Give it a shot.

Did you leave anything plugged into the mother board? When I pulled my boards I left the power board, daughterboard, wireless, etc attached to the bottom of the case and pulled just the board. Think I booted the first time with no extra ram also. You did remember to pull the bios battery also right? Just trying to narrow it down some more.

Unhooked everything, the only thing that happens now is the power light comes on. I went ahead and striped some parts from it that I needed for another CF-18 that had been dropped at one time, bottom and hd cover were all banged up.

I will fool around with it some more when I get back home next week, see if I can get it to boot. If not....parts for sale. ;)
