just got a cf-18kdh2xvm, and im trying to load windows. ive tried from both a revcovery disc as well as a win disk, via a usb cdrom, but while it recognizes the external, it wont load as in the startup stream in ends with the message

    Standard RAM Failed. (01-CO)

tried replacing with different ram, but wondering if it talking about on board RAM, nd if so, what does it mean.

    any thoughts

    Sam

    A couple of thoughts Sam.
    1. That's a digitizer and should be loaded with Tablet.
    2. CF-18s at least, probably others as well, seem to be very picky about the USB drive you put the restore disks in. If you do have the correct disks, try a different drive.

Sunny DRX 820U. Is what I had to use to load the recovery disc and not to get in a hurry when changing disc i.e. let it spin up a bit and sometimes you have to try ejecting and re inserting them. Just what worked for me....Driller
you can use a panny CF-VFDU03 which is what pana shows as an optional usb external drive as well. it is a floppy which uses 2HD disc that are used to make the backup discs, not cd, note. can't imagine why....as some may not allow use of cd in bios boot order. Also can use pana CF-VDRRT1 and in bios select it to boot first.YES its a cd usb!

Never encountered that message, and I have had lot's of installations fail for various reasons
    Why don't you download memtest86

    Memtest86.com - Memory Diagnostic

    Burn the iso to disk
    And boot, and test

It could be a memory issue

A couple of months back I posted regarding CF-18 failure modes, one of which is failure to complete operating system installation. From my experience if the CD/DVD drive is recognized you should be able to load from the recovery disks or generic XP/Vista media, provided you do not have a motherboard level hardware problem. IMO based on the number of failures we have encountered with the small number of CF-18's we use, the mk.4 and 5 models ( K & N) either touchscreen or digitizer have the worst record.
I have finally bitten the bullet and upgraded to the CF-19 and dumped/retired all the K & N model CF-18's.

I have had lots of problems with drives recognized by CF-18s which failed to restore. In every case the same disks, factory or copies, loaded fine with the Sony DRX 820U. I got mine free at the dump. It's a bit of a beast, but hasn't failed yet. The drives which have failed to restore are not cheap junk, the CF-18 just seems to not like them. There is nothing else about these CF-18s which works less than perfectly.

The problems I have encountered reinstalling operating systems on the CF-18 (mk4 & 5) occurred after these units experienced complete system failure as I mentioned in my earlier post. I have not found the CF-18 (mk1-5) to be 'picky' about booting from USB drives. Using one of the 'string-it-together' Sabrent USB 2.0 to IDE/SATA adapter, I have been able to boot/load using a variety of 3.5" CD/DVD drives although I generally use the Panasonic unit that was acquired with CF-18's.
The problem I experienced is no with reinstalling or upgrading operating systems on the CF-18 but rather the unusually high rate (IMO) of failure of the mk4 & 5 models.

Correction: not 3.5" but rather 5.25" CD/DVD Drives, the kind you find in desktop PC's.
