Has anyone tried out Vista on a Mk 5 CF-18? It is a touchscreen model with XP Pro on it now. I know that Aero won't work but will the Tablet functions of Vista work? It has a 1.2 Ghz P-M with 1.5 GB of RAM and 120 GB 5400 rpm hard drive. It runs XP okay but all of my other computers are Vista now and I've grown to like it. Just wondering if anyone has done this and what their experience was with it.

Well, I bit the bullet and tried it. It works well. It's about the same speed as XP. All of the drivers for Vista are on Panasonic's website. I tried Office 07 but would recommend Office 03 due to it being faster. One good thing about Vista is that the touchpad/touchscreen driver seems more responsive, as in the pointer moves faster. All of the Hotkey buttons work. Overall, I'm happy with Vista on here and would recommend it to anyone with a Mk 5. I would be happy to answer anyone's questions if they are interested in it.

I would recommend Vista to users with either the cf-18 or cf-19 Digitizer
It’s an improvement over Tablet 2005

If you upgrade to Vista just be sure to max out your ram
At idle Vista can use 1gb in comparison with the 300mb of ram that xp uses

Hey Tomcat57, do you know if my Mk 5 will take a 2 gig ram chip? I have a 1 gig in it now and the specs say that it is the maximum, but I've seen other laptops that say the same thing but will take a 2 gig. I believe the chipset will only use 2 gig so it would ignore the other 512. I have another laptop with a 2 gig stick that I might try but I'll have to take the keyboard off of it to get to it.

No, it will work ,but only 1536 total will show in bios
So it will only read 1/2 capacity of the 2 gb chip
    Tried already!
