Hello,
When I got my Panasonic CF-19, it came with a compatible IBM 16V * 4.5 A = 72W power adapter. For the longest time I've always thought this laptop to be loud because it makes some form of whistling/whining/beeping sound which is very high pitched.
Over the years, I also bought Genuine Panasonic 15.6V * 5A = 78W power adapter which ironically I've been only using with the external battery charger and Today I finally used the Panasonic adapter on the CF-19 and the whistling is gone!
Have others also experienced this?
Also, a lot of resalers claim that the IBM 72W power adapters are compatible but apparently the toughbook "whines" about it all the time. Is this adapter even safe to use for the external battery charger?

Those vintage IBM adapters are pretty well built and "compatible" in terms of voltage and plug style, but 4.5 amps (A) is not enough for most modern Toughbooks so they will run hot. I would definitely throw out ANY adapter that makes noise, gets hot, or has questionable cords. Just not with the risk of fire.

I have 2 more of the IBM power adapters. I will check if they make the CF-19 to whistle as well.

CF-19 + IBM 16V/4.5A(72W) "compatible" PSU = Whistling/high pitch buzzing noise
