Hello,
I have been using my CF-19 mk1 for nearly half a year now, and I love it! But there is one function that I am missing and would like to have, namely a built in microphone. I would like to have the possibility to easily record lectures and for tuning musical instruments.
Is there anyone who have found a solution to this?
Thanks,

Some toughbooks have internal mics. But even then, they rarely perform well. Adequately yes, but not well.
I have a stock panny mic in my cf-28 and a modded mic in my cf-29. while my modded mic works far batter that the stock one in my 28. Its still far worse than say, my Asus X72.
Bottom line, these things were built to be robust, sturdy and overall indestructible. A mic means there is a hole somewhere and a hole means that water or dust can get through. While Panny does a perfect job of making sure no water or dust gets in, side effect is that barely any sound does either.
Do it if you want. It should be as simple as ordering the mic and plugging it in. At least it would have been on my 29 if i hadn't started messing around with it. The hole, the connector, its all there. Basically plug and play. But don't expect miracles, mate. -
It is quite posible. If you have the guts to open up your system and soldered it to the mic line with respect to have an off/on capability for internal and external use. What I mean is that when there is a mic hook in to the external port, the internal will be disable and when there is nothing on it the internal will be active. Unfortunately this machine has no provision or connector for int'l mic.
You need to have an schematic of the audio board of CF-19. So that you can trace those lines to mod. Ask Rob from tbt. Maybe he can provide you with those diag..m
Ares.. the cf-29 has provision for internal mic. There is no need to modify. Just add the internal mic. and yes! the cf-28 internal mic is a perfect for cf-29.

I'll defer to ohlip on this one. I've barely touched my cf-19. Ih he says there is no connector, then there is none.
Also the mic connector from one of the toshiba (i'll check which one) laptops fits the CF-28/29 perfectly. The mic works, but its too big to install so you need to solder on a smaller one.
I wanted to move the mic from my 28 to my 29 but i needed a mic in both. So i had to mod my own for the 29... -
Mr..tough..For you to understand how its gonna look like inside the socket of mic. Here is a diagram to what is happeningto when you plug and unplug the external mic. This is not a complete diagram. Just to give you an idea how it works.

Would it be possible to get an external sound card (PCMCIA) and hide a microphone at the second PCMCIA card slot? Does it exist any PCMCIA sound cards that are small enough and which have a microphone slot?
Using this method the microphone probably wouldn't work when the cover is closed, but I feel that this would be sufficent for me, also I could probably fit a stronger microphone since there is more space here. And even if I have to break up the card, to solder the microphone below (so i could close the cover), I feel that this method might be simpler.
CF-19 - Is it possible to get an internal microphone?
