The temperature specs for the Samsung EVO SSD.

    Temperature---------- Operating : 0℃ to 70℃----------Non-Operating : -40℃ to 85℃

So if you plan on using it below 32ºF, (Which is the same as 0ºC) then yes you need the heater.

The way I look at it is why not leave it in...can't hurt. If it came from the factory with a SSD it had a heater installed. The heater will only come on if need and only when the laptop is first turned on. Once the hdd has reached a certain temp the heater will shut off. This is what I was told many years ago by long time member "Toughbook" (Rick).

A SSD was optional on later model CF 19's.
When they came from the factory with a SSD they had a heater installed.
The heaters run at boot up only. They come on below a certain temperature and the computer will not finish booting until the drive and LCD are warmed to a preset temperature. I think 60 degrees.

I can't remember what the temp is but I know my CF-30 took about 3 minutes to start up when the temp was 40 degrees outside. I also think there was also a warning on the screen but can't remember for sure.

Good to know for sure...this will save me the trouble of trying it later. It's getting cold here now, 30 degrees today.
