    Hi

I'm new to this forum and as I can see it's full of very helpful guys but one problem which I havnt been able to find on here is as follow.

I have a CF-19 which my mechanic mate gave to me as he brought a new one.

Question is. He had windows 7 on it and I proceeded to downgrade to xp as my diagnostic program's work better with xp and now it's asking me for a bios password, now for the stupid moment. My mate decided to put a password on it but can't for the life of him think what it is.

How can I get around this as I now have a duff toughbook. I've tried the usual CMOS battery etc. But to no avail.

    Thanks

There is a special machine for your friend

P.S. It's prohibited to discuss password recovery here. And it's impossible to recover it.
Remove HDD, put it into another PC (any), reinstall OS, install HDD back.

Now that you know that you can't asked for the Password support on the BIOS lets continue.

I have a 74 MK1 that has a BIOS password and when I upgraded the bios from xp to Vista bios it kept the password, but it did upgrade the bios so sound, touch, etc will work properly. The 19, should be the same. You will just need the proper USB floppy drive to be able to update the bios. The CF-19,74, 30 models I have all updated took that floppy drive.

What Model 19 do you have?

But thanks for your help. I'll now be posting a thread on my cf-18 which you may be able to help with.

Well job was a gooden now when I turn the laptop on it hangs on the windows loading screen. Left it overnight and it was still the same in the morning.

I can't even boot in safe mode. Only the odd occasion in debug mode.

    Any ideas

You should not need a bios password to install windows...
What is the full model number CF19xxxxx....
If it is a mk2 or better you can do a fresh install of any version of Windows you want. Without concern for the BIOS
Even with a mk1 you should be able to install any version of windows, You just may not have a touchscreen.
How are you trying to install windows?
DVD or USB......First verify that the CF19 will boot from whatever device you are using.
Panasonic official usb DVD is the best choice., but....let us know some more details please.

    Other solution
Contact member "Rob"..buy a recovery DVD for your CF19....

I've got a genuine windows 7 pro disk

Laptop won't boot from either a usb or a dvd.

And I can't tell you the exact model number as I can't access the bios to find out. Nor can I access the desktop.

Sorry if I'm being very vague

I think you missed a letter or number in your model number. Should be 7 letters or numbers after the 19

    Well it is a mk4 with a touchscreen....CPU is a i5..
I think it has bluetooth and Gobi..No TPM...No GPS
The E at the end should indicate UK...
You should not need to change anything with the bios to install either version of windows..

Install Windows on the drive in a different computer. Put the drive in the CF-19. Manually load all the drivers.

    That's what I've already done

But it won't get passed the windows loading screen when I put it back into the cf-19. Works fine in any other laptop though.

Some of the newer toughbooks for me are like that. All of the T7 and back series will see my Samsung usb dvd drive the T8 series won't. I haven't gotten a Mk4 or newer 19 yet but it is most likely the same way.

It's a git as it's a high spec one with the i5 processor 500gb Hardrive and 4gb. Also has the rubber backlit keyboard.

Try downloading Zorin Linux and loading that on the hard drive and then swapping it back to the CF19...
Zorin is made to be very similar to windows..Its easy for a first time Linux user.
I suggest the Core 32bit version...
