    Hello Guys,

Just got my Dell 5530 module and placed it in the mini pci-e slot. I connected the black antenna to MAIN and the brown cable to AUX.

Ubuntu recognized the module tight away and I was able to enter the PIN of my SIM card into the connection manager and then I was able to connect to the UMTS network.

The GPS part of the module seems to be recognized, with some AT commands it outputs some NMEA data but it seems to be unable to find satellites.

Maybe someone here has an idea how to get the GPS working?

    Thanks,
    RobotFreak

Yes :) I know. Some months ago I did the same. It doesn't work under win, because the driver is looking for a dell or lenovo or sony BIOS. But it worked very well under ubuntu, as u said. To receive an GPS-signal I bought an small GPS-antenna for a mobilephone with GPS. It works well outside if u have an clear view to the sky. For a better signal I installed an Holux-antenna and for a card, which will work with win; look in my signature ;-)

Thanks for your reply, where did you place the Holux antenna?
On the right side where the original antenna also goes?
There are some pcb antenna's available that I could locate on the left-side of the screen but I think the reception will be quite bad...
Edit: I noticed that there is a CF-18 gps kit available, it might be possible to buy a CF-18 antenna and use it on a CF-19?

Yes, U can locate in on the top if it is small enough, or make an selfmade bump on a plastic cover or make it like the original, which is the same as on the cf-18.
I placed mine on the right side between the wlan and bluetooth antenna. There is a electrical gap. It doesn't work very well, because it depends on the angel of the display...
I will try to install an sarantel geohelix. The problem is, that this antenna needs an distance to metal of 1cm. I will work on an housing for this nexttime
