I spoke to Mrs. Bobbi Scott from Heartland to inquier about purchasing a fingerprint reader kit, and she informed me that I would have to send in my toughbook for them to install it for $337USD  ...
Are there any other options for me to get the kit and install it myself?

Why do you want to? They are worthless in reality. You can password protect just about everything on the Toughbook.

I could hardly wait to get mine installed and was a little ticked as it took me about 5 swipes to get in.... It only took my wife 3 times.... And I didn't have her set up in the system! Trust it at your own peril!

Take that $337 and use it as a down payment on a good revolver... And a sticker threatening death if they attempt to use your Toughbook!

lol! I didnt realize it was that worthless... I have a Kimber 1911 ICQB as a conceal carry, but it think it would be equally as messy to beat sombody with the toughbook or blast them with a 45.

    Bios password it
More secure than a windows password

We either love Hearland for helping us out in our Mod projects, or hate them
For wwan kits/fingerprint reader kits the current policy is that they want the laptop sent to them ,and they do the install

A fingerprint scanner only produces about 8 bits of entropy. An interested hacker could get past that pretty quickly.

If you really want to protect your system, look into one of the self encrypting hard drives that several manufacturers have out today. I have found one of them to make my system as secure as I could ever want.

Well thats weird. I got the fingerprint reader for my CF-19 a couple of weeks ago when I ordered a new latch and it was $151 and change. Of course they get you with the next day shipping but that didn't bother me. The girl even looked up the part numbers for both the latch and FP reader for me since I didn't know what they were...

And on the subject of HD encryption, I'm using the built in MS Bitlocker encryption in Windows 7 since our little lappys have a TPM chip built into them.
