As requested I am moving this thread here. Their have been a lot of new questions asked about 19's here lately and their will be lots more on the way as the prices of 19's are way down making they a good starter/first toughbook. This thread still isn't finished. I like to base my work on physically having the machine. If you have seen and liked my CF-18 thread that was done while I still had all 5 marks of the CF-18. Digitizers and touchscreens. Right now I have Mk1,2,3 so that is why they have more info on them compared to the others. The others will be extended over time. I see I have some broken links because of the copy and paste. So let me edit it all over the next week or so, I am at work so I will have some time.

( Still haven't had time to get this all the way I wanted it yet, but I figured I would go ahead and post what I have then just add and tweak from there. Still a lot of info to dig up on the Mk4 to Mk7 19's and a LOT of pictures to add.) (got credits to add also)

(ANYTHING YOU WANT TO SEE ADDED JUST ASK)

    THE SMALL AND POWERFUL CF-19

The CF-19 is Panasonics small and fully rugged powerhouse. So far it has spanned over 6 Mk’s and is still going strong as it is still in production today. This Toughbook is patterned after the CF-18 and even a few parts will interchange between the lower Mk’s. This tablet has a small but very functional keyboard, all units are WWAN ready. WWAN, GPS, Backlit keyboard, Smart card reader, 2 MP camera and fingerprint reader are optional equipment. This Toughbook started life as a Intel Core duo machine and has worked its way up to current Intel i5 offerings. Each time a new Mk has come out the internal hardware has upgraded while retaining the same basic outer shell. The Mk1 and Mk2 are either Digitizer or touchscreen. Starting with the Mk3 dual touch was optional.

    CF-18 / CF-19 PARTS INTERCHANGE

On the CF-19 Mk1 to Mk3 most of the parts will interchange. Doors, some of the rubber covers, carry strap, hinge assembly, inner screen, Antenna covers and GPS antenna cover. You can even put a CF-18 complete lid assembly on the earlier CF-19’s and use the screen. The only thing you will have to swap out is use the CF-19’s harness and decide where you want to put the speaker.

On the CF-19 Mk3 they started beefing up the outcase where the hinges are to to stress bends over repeaded use. I have never seen one brake, just have a light bend mark over time.

    WWAN READY

All CF-19 models are WWAN Ready. These models take the M-PCI-E type cards and all of them have a sims card slot with protective cover.

    WWAN CARDS KNOWN TO WORK
    GOBI 1000 Mk1, Mk2
    GOBI 2000 Mk1, Mk2
    (more to come)
Yes, the Mk2 used Gobi 1000.

In which case there are differences between Europe and the US. In Europe:

    CF-19mk1 had Novatel EU740
    CF-19mk2 had Novatel EU870D
    CF-19mk3 had Qualcomm Gobi 1000
CF-19mk4 will have Qualcomm Gobi 2000

Re: CF-19 MK2 with Gobi 2000 WWAN problems
    anyone checked this?:

    "Installing the Drivers

The problem with installing the drivers is caused by a library that Qualcomm uses to support the installation called difxapi. The supporting DLL for this API is included in the installation package and it conflicts with the Windows 7 version, this conflict causes a custom action in the installation routine to fail and forces a rollback of the installation.

To fix the problem we need only to replace this DLL with the one from your Windows 7 installation. If you don’t have it already you need to download the driver installation package from your laptop manufacturer’s support site and extract it somewhere.

Starting from where you unarchived your package look for a directory similar to “\Driver\Source\Module Retargetable Folder\QCUSB-Lenovo\DriverPackage\Microsoft\DIFxAPI”. Now you just need to replace the difxapi.dll here with the one from “c:\windows\system32\”. If you are running 64-bit Windows then copy the DLL into the amd64 subdirectory, for 32-bit installations copy the DLL into the x86 directory, if you’re not sure you can safely copy it into both directories.

Once you replace this DLL the setup.exe under the “Driver” directory should now run successfully. Once the installation finishes verify that you have the “QCUSB-*” and “QDLService” directories under “c:\QUALCOMM”."

Qualcomm Gobi WWAN Card on Windows 7
Re: CF-19 MK2 with Gobi 2000 WWAN problems
Got it working! Well, I only have the sim card from my smartphone to test with, and it didn't let me connect to the data network (hopefully because it isn't a data only sim card), but it was able to receive sms messages so at least the radios were talking.

It now seems pretty evident that the Panasonic CSA software is simply not going to cooperate with a non-Panasonic Gobi card. At least, not without some serious poking around. What I ended up doing was Googling the hardware ID for my card (USB\VID_1199&PID_9001), which turned up some Toshiba Seirra Wireless Gobi drivers and their equivalent CSA software. And they worked! Luckily it must not be doing any hardware check beyond the wwan card.

I am not entirely sure if the BIOS update was needed since the Panasonic CSA stuff behaved exactly the same before and after, but I cant go back and the Toshiba drivers on the old BIOS obviously.

    KEYBOARD TYPES

Standard: This is your standard non backlit keyboard.

Emissive: This is similar to the standard keyboard but is back lit and the brightness is adjustable. It’s just as easy to type on as the standard keyboard.

    Rubber Backlit:
The rubber backlit keyboard is fully water proof. Be careful while cleaning the keyboard as rubbing too hard can tear the rubber membrane. Certain types of cleaners shouldn’t be used as it will dry out/melt the rubber rendering the keyboard useless. This keyboard is backlit and the brightness is adjustable.

    Customer Special Configuration:

When a customer orders multiple units of the same configuration they are designated a Panasonic Customer Configuration Number which replaces the fourth & fifth letters in the standard model number.

In the event of the same customer ordering multiple units of different configurations, they are designated additional Customer Configuration Numbers....These configurations are not available in the Panasonic Configurator....these units can often be of a standard configuration with subtle additions such as external hardware....or more significant such as a non-standard Bios that disables the use of WLAN/Bluetooth/Modem.

A Customer Configuration is just that....tailored to the customers needs.

Example; CF-18xxx90xx....This number (90) is designated to Toyota (US)....the full model number is not available in the Panasonic Configurator....so the configuration....subtle or otherwise, is unknown!!

    Re: CF-19 Mk2 WLAN Upgrade?

I FINALLY found a dual band wireless card that would work! After trying yet another card that didn't work, I noticed that the Intel 4965 that was in my CF-19 said that it was model number "4965AG_ MM1", while under that it said "Intel Wireless Link 4965AGN MM1". But it only showed up in the Windows device manager as a 4965 AG_ (notice the dash after the G). After doing a fair amount of research, I found that Intel sold two different versions of the 4965, one with the N capability disabled from the factory. Why, I don't know, as the card has 5 gHz capability for the A band. Anyway, the card with N enabled is a Model Number "4965AGN MM1", with "Intel Wireless Link 4965AGN MM1" underneath. I did a careful search on ebay, and found one with the correct model number for $7 shipped! I got and installed it today, the computer started up, and I didn't even have to update the driver. It is connected at 300Mbps on the 5 gHz N band as I type this.

There are a lot of these cards on ebay with both variations of the model. Make sure to get the one with the 4965AGN model number, NOT 4965AG_.

Why on earth Intel did this is beyond me. Talk about confusion. But I'm glad I finally found a card that worked, and gives me decent speed.

    GPS

    What is my GPS accuracy?
GPS is WAAS-capable. Its accuracy is approximately two meter / 2DRMS. (Info is correct for Mk1)
The GPS available with the Panasonic CF-19 Toughbook conforms to the NMEA (National Marine Electronics Association) 0183 standard.

How do I determine which COM port my GPS is installed on?
Open the Device Manager and scroll down toPorts. Take note of which COM ports are listed. Open HyperTerminal (Start > All Programs > Accessories > Communications) and change Connect Using toone of the COM ports listed in Device Manager. Change Bits Per Second to 4,800and click OK. If you see information scrolling on the screen, you have found your GPS module's COM port.

Part numbers for the CF-18 batteries and color code of the tab
Part numbers for the CF-19 batteries and color code of the tab

CF-18/19 dock/port replicator part numbers ( I will get the pictures of them soon uploaded to my flickr account)

Links to any thread you think is helpful to the CF-19 and I will add it to the links section on the first post.

List of CF-18/19 chargers part numbers.

Anyone with the newer i5 (mk4 up) CF-19 look at your charger and post what info they have on them, not sure if they upped the power on the newer models or not.

that's a (very) hard to find battery (online). I've been looking for it for a few months, and ended up buying the VZSU48, and lucky me, it was recently manufactured and performs well.
I think we should update the CF-19 Wiki, I'll soon post the model number/specs for my 19mk4 AC adapter (3.75A).

The CF-19MK4 AC adapter is the same as the MK3, at least it is with the units I have. I guess I should have stated that when I posted the second battery specs.

I guess I got lucky as the battery came with the unit. According to BatteryBar Pro, the battery has 9.6% wear on it so should be good for a few years yet.

Your AC adapter is the one your unit had when it left the factory, where as mine were bought (as replacements?).

    From the CF-19MK4 Operating Manual:

AC adapter: CF-AA6373A with Note#1, which states 'When a replacement is necessary, purchase the commercially available CF-AA1633A AC adapter.'

    cf 19 mk3 8gb ram info.

    excerpt from thread

    My 2x4GB is finally here
    Elpida 4GB 2Rx8 PC2-6400S-666
I've already installed one of them, so now I have 2GB + 4GB and it works fine under 64-bit OS.
Will upgrade internal 2GB to second 4GB module soon, but it seems, while 4GB is not enough, 6GB is.enough.

Probably would be better to start a new thread.

Sim cards need to be inserted and removed when unit is powered down.

No idea about Russian sim cards.

Just to clarify....This is the restore / recovery disk we mean...This maybe for a different model / mark, but Panasonic recovery disks only look like this.

We don't mean a OEM disk from DELL, SONY, MICROSOFT, APPLE....etc..

Assuming this is the right place.
I've had my 19 now for a few days, so far it's great.

    Spec's are:
    CF 19AHC15PE mk5
    I5 2.5ghz
    120gig ssd
    4gig ram
mobile broadband sim card slot thing (can't remember what though)
    Windows 7 pro 64 bit
Looks like the original ac adaptor, 16volt 3.75A.

Plans are to add another 4gig memory, a bigger ssd, GPS, emissive backlit keyboard.

    1) MK4 SDHC reader works with 64GB SDXC card. Both read and write :)
    2) Installed 2 x 8GB RAM (16GB total) into MK5. Cool!
    3) Buy only "blue" batteries for CF-19. Other ones for sure have worse elements.
    4) CF-19 MK4 can't use USB ports in CF-VEB181, but MK5 can. Same AC adapter.

Waiting for Samsung 850 Evo to check if MK5 supports SATA-III. Sandybridge.. has to support :)

    From Panasonic info viewer..
    Battery ID.
the last number on the line is the date code: in my case 111006xxxxx which stands for 2011.10.06 (6th of Oct).

Batteries for a CF 19....They seem to all be interchangeable...Except if you are using a UL1604 Haz Loc model in a Haz Loc, then you must get the CF-VZSU50..Haz Loc battery...

    CF VZSU48--Blue tab...10.65v--- 5.7Ah
    CF VZSU48U---Blue tab--10.65v--- 5.7Ah
CF VZSU50---Green tab...Hazardous Location battery---Reported by web site as for mk1-mk4
    CF VZSU48CJS--Orange tab--Japan only ..CF-19 mk6 later??...-10.65v--5.7Ah
CF VZSU58U..Yellow tab--11.1v---5.6Ah--For mk4 and later?-Sold with laptop only not sold separately.
CF VZSU50W..No label info found yet..
    CF-VZSU48R.. China Only---10.65V---5.7Ah
    CF-VZSU48JS...No label info found yet..
    Info is from battery labels.....
Interesting that some Ebay sellers are selling new in box batteries CF-VZSU48U on box, but battery says CF-VZSU48--NO U...I have seen batteries with CF-VZSU48U printed on the label..

Myself and another member found the life span of a CF-VZSU58 is not as long as a CF-VZSU48....I think they use cheap cells in the original batteries that ship with a new laptop. Like cheapo starter cartridges in a printer.

Hi I have a CF19 MK2 running windows 7 with the digitiser screen, When I installed Win.7 I found that I had to by trial and error intall some drivers from the MK2 some from MK3 and4 in order to get everything working.
I am now considering Windows 10 as I get a free update, but the compatibility checker informs me that touch screen is not required, has anyone tried Win.10 and will the Panasonic digitiser drivers which I believe are in fact from Wacom work under Win 10.

I was recently asked to add a camera to our CF-19s. I was in contact with Panasonic and got three different answers to the same question. Bottom line is I'm now being told that retro fitting a camera to CF-19 is not possible. And then I discovered you guys!

Question #1 - The integrated options has 'R' and 'S' as having Bluetooth and a camera. Is that the CF-19s or CF-31s? The CF-31s have an integrated webcam.

    Question #2 - The list has 'MK1' and 'MK3' - that's for CF-19s, right?

Welcome to the Panasonic Toughbook forum

The down side to having a camera is you lose a memory slot . The camera is mounted on the bottom and it's no really the best. Others might be able to tell you for sure if it can be added...I am not sure. To buy these new it will be cheaper to look for one that has it already installed.

    It's for the 19.

No you can not add the camera to a CF19...It has been tried..The BIOS is different.

Not sure yet perhaps fit a camera or some such. I have fitted extra usb ports on a couple of 28's and turned a 29 into a 20MHZ scope in the past but I am now playing arround with a 19 and a circuit schematic would make it easier to pick up any traces I need.

    CF-19 MK6.
    1) Only 1 RAM slot, so no more 2x 8GB modules and dual-channel :(
    2) No bluetooth aside of Intel 6235 Wi-Fi Bluetooth MiniPCI-e. So if I install Intel 7260 AC+BT I loose bluetooth functionality at all (taped pin 51 doesn't work here) :(
    3) Still don't know whether light sensor does something or not :) It has threshold settings in BIOS, but I don't see any difference between those settings in Windows.
    4) Maybe I would prefer MK5 with 16GB RAM, Bluetooth and USB 3.0 :)

I think 8GB will be more than enough. I know we always want more but do we really need it ?? My MK5 has 8GB but it's over kill since I only use it for surfing the net and GPS.

    It's my main PC, so I've used 16GB on MK5 and now it's limited to 8GB :(
Also VGA out is of a very low quality on MK5. I've tested 2 MK5 with different monitors and the picture looks blurred, though real resolution is 1280x1024 or 1920x1080. That's bad. Will test on MK6. Good VGA quality on MK4.

If you want to upgrade to Windows 10 or if you've already installed Windows 10 and have a problem with Intel dynamic power performance management driver - download and install this newer version (yes, it has another name).
There is an installation tool that will upgrade your current driver to Intel Dynamic Platform and Thermal Framework (DPTF).
    Tested on MK5 and MK6.

I'm so happy this thread has started :)
My 1st Toughbook is a Mk1 CF-19CHDAFBE and that runs perfectly on Win 7 32bit.
I have just acquired a MK3 CF-19KHS49AE that is etched as having belonged to Yorkshire Water so "49" is another one of their batch models.
The MK3 came with a fully working version of Win 7 32bit however I needed to install Win 7 64bit on it.
What a nightmare... I tried to upgrade but Windows said I couldn't run a 64bit upgrade on a 32bit operating system.
I found the "All in one" MK3 Win 7 64bit package on Panasonics website. It unpacked 18 files but then seemed to stall on loading the 1st package :(
Much turning computer off/on and restarting the installer package seemed to get all the files installed... But then Windows told me that a number of them were not digitally signed and disallowed ARRRRRR
More googling and I found that if I push F8 on boot I can select to allow non signed drivers :)
I now have everything working apart from the Novatel HSDPA and Bluetooth Dev (Personal Area Network). 2 x Data Interfaces show as not having drivers in System but the Bluetooth adapter seems to work...
Hope this is of help to someone and any help with my missing drivers much appreciated :)

Correct way is to run that "all in one" as administrator. Without F8 etc.
Install Mobilink software - there are drivers inside for your Novatel data interfaces.

So I have just installed Windows 10 to see what happens on My CF19 Mk2. All works well except I have no SD card, looked around on Google and seems that this happens a lot on many makes of computers with SD card readers built in, been a bug since Win.8. Trouble is all the fixes suggested wont work for me. I am not sure of the make of the SD card chip on the CF19 any one know please as then I can get a driver from the chip makers direct or at least I hope I can, certainly Realtek have one for theirs.

Thank you for that information, it makes sense the PCMIA card slots are Ricoh and the SD slot is in the same place.
