    Hi
Has anybody done a hdd upgrade on the CF-19. I found a tutorial for CF-29 and lots of threads but not so much on the CF-19.
I have a CF-19GHGAXAM and running out of space on the factory 80Gb HDD.
I have a brand new Western Digital Scorpio Blue 2.5" WD2500BEVE 250 GB EIDE hard drive but it will be nice to know if this will fit in...

    Bilbo,
I'm not sure about the CF-19 but I just did a CF-18 for the first time and it could not have been simpler, two screws. The only issue I had was some odd foil the drive was wrapped in inside the heater. I swapped it over to the new drive and all is well. It took about 15-20 minutes including taking pictures which I will post eventually.

thx Capt...Could be easy but what I'm afraid of is the fact that some models come with weird voltage hdd's from what I've read in other threads

    bilbo,
If your question is how do you get the caddy out of the bay, please do some reading here before you go any further!! If you have the caddy out, there are two little screws on the connector end of the drive caddy. Remove them with your good screwdriver you have bought for Toughbook work(this is your first homework assignment). Then gently squeeze the sides of the caddy to allow the top to come off the 4 tabs, one at each corner which are holding it on. As you do this note how the connector is held in place by the tabs and pins on the top and bottom of the caddy. You now have a hard drive encased in a gel pack cushion with connector and heater(the thin metallic piece which wraps around the drive) in your hand. Carefully unplug the connector(watch the wires which go to the heater!) and work the drive out of its protective padding. Reverse with the new drive. I really will try to get my pictures up on Rob's site today. It helps to take a lot of digital pictures as you go so you can see how it came apart. Its not hard, but pay attantion to how the connector cable is sitting in relation to the plastic on the gel pack when you take it apart, etc. No weird voltages, SATA 2.5" laptop drive for CF-19, ATA/IDE for CF-18.

I replaced the HDD on my CF-19 with an SSD. It works fine, and I did not pay attention to any non-standard voltage requirements. The HDD now sits in a USB-case, works fine as well, so I would think it is all standard. As for the process, I did not use any tutorial for this, and it seemed pretty straightforward. Just remove the screws as you find them and the cage comes apart. There was a little bit of adhesive tape fixing the cable withing the cage to the drive itself, I reused it for the new drive. The parts of the whole assembly only fit one way if I remember correctly, so you cannot really get it wrong when putting it back together, as long as you do not force anything. Just be careful not to lose the tiny screws or to damage the cable.

Edit: Ah, too slow, capt.dogfish posted a much more competent response while I was writing. Just one thing:
On the CF-19 it is a SATA drive.

Yeah THX to everybody..I got the hdd out and I'm glad I did not open that replacement WD IDE HDD so I can take it back and swap it for a SATA.
It is weird that the specs on a few websites list the factory one as an IDE not a Sata.
Pretty much the same procedure as in the CF-29 tutorial.
I'll use Acronis software to clone it .

Thanks Capt. ,I was only afraid that the HDD is different than the one in your CF-18.
This one looks like is a normal Hitachi 80gb SATA-150.

I called the store and they only have SATA-300 in stock .I like the Seagate ST9250827AS 250GB priced at$59.99..

I'm not sure if the notebook will accept the SATA-300 so should i wait and order one with SATA-150 from an online retailer????

Sata-300 will work as it is backwards compatible to sata-150

The drive i have in my cf-19 is a sata-300 drive and it works fine.
