Ive seen threads saying that the MC5725 does/doesn't have gps. I currently have a MC5725 installed on a cf-19 using Verizon (which I have heard disables the gps).
When I enable gps on the card (using AT commands through a terminal program) I am able to get data from the NMEA port to VisualGPS, but Im not getting any satellites.
This is the output that Im getting on VisualGPS:
$GPGGA,191637.2,00-0.000000,S,00000.000000,E,0,00,0.0,0.0,M,,,,*07
$GPGSA,A,1,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,*1E
$GPGSV,1,1,00*79
$GPVTG,,T,,M,,N,,K,N*2C
$GPRMC,,V,,,,,,,,,,N*53
It just repeats after that.
Has anyone successfully used gps on the mc5725?

You probably need to hook up a gps antenna to the card.
-
That's satellite data scrolling there. Agree with Shawn. I saw the same info on Verizon.
Now the CF-53 has a 5725 (ATT) card and it has the best signal receipt of any gps here. Wonder what is different about the WWAN antennas????that it uses. Lower signal strength but it sees more sats from my kitchen table under the tin roof. It does not retain last known position when powered down since it does not have a watch battery installed as do most pure gps engines.
CF-19MK4 is also a good one and runs gps through Gobi2000. Good in a relative sense boys and girls, not nearly as good as an active patch antenna of course. -
Primary and secondary antennas are hooked up on the inside to the card. Think I should check the connectors?

Something like this..
GPS Ceramic Internal Patch 1575 42MHz Antenna 20x20x7mm Gi | eBay -
Though you may need to lengthen the lead...
-
Would that be one that could be used with the external cover on the right side toward the rear?
-
That looks like the same exact antenna from the kit that I was looking at. Lengthen the cable and install that cover. Should work fine. Ill give that a shot.
Thanks! Im really looking forward to getting this working. Ive been setting this up to work when overlanding in the future.
EDIT: Ordered both the antenna and the outside cover. -

Check out this Pigtail: U.FL Male to U.FL Female Extension | eBay . You will find 4 different sizes, 1 , 3 , 6 and 12 inch ones.
I have the same card as yours in my CF-19FEGCDCM and last night I did a factory restore and the only driver not installed was for the MC5725. Mine does have the antenna on the side . I installed MS Streets and got in the truck and drove around town and the GPS worked great. I will be pulling off the bottom of the 19 today to clean it up and install more memory and will check out how long of a line you will need. I have never owned a CF-19 with factory installed GPS so am not sure if the GPS runs off the card or has its own GPS card ??

Good guess, callsign is kind of a give away isnt it?

Exactly what I was looking for. Thanks. Guess I wasnt using the right words to search for.
