    Hi there,

We use our CF-19 MK1 for car repairs but it had developed a fault. I managed to get it working by installing Windows 7 again and in the process of sorting through the drivers when presented with the notification regarding end of life for Windows 7.

Since we have a few of these in the garage, are they suitable to run Windows 10 and if so, other than the possible front light issues I have been reading up on, is this wise given the spec of these machines?

I've seen numerous posts also about different drivers to use, some did a clean install, some upgraded over Windows 7 but they generally seem to be the models above this, not the MK1. If we were to upgrade to Windows 10 just so we do not need to purchase new hardware as its not in the budget at the moment, could anyone give me some advice on updating things driver wise and would upgrading to 4GB RAM and an SSD help run it better?

I did see the post here about upgrading to Windows 7, I assume the driver orders would be the same for Windows 10 but regarding which drivers to use I would be stuck. If anyone has the MK1 or could advise I'd be thankful.

Side Question: If we were to upgrade these machines to something newer for car/van software (AutoData and Delphi), can anyone suggest a system that will run Windows 10 fine but not too expensive even if we buy secondhand for now.

Thanks for the help and hopefully this post doesn't break the rules.

I figured this may be the case.

We have just had a big refitting in the garage so funds are limited for the new few months period so I was trying to salvage what we can until January or so at least. We have 6 of these CF-19 MK1 systems that I was hoping could just go on Windows 10 for now, I get the speed may be somewhat of an issue but would only do it if the drivers were working.

I'll let me boss know that this is likely the best solution for him going forward. I've just done some googling, these are the i5 processors in the MK4?

I don’t use Windows but think your diagnostic programs on your MK1 CF-19’s (if they’re working fine) will be fine for now.
You could save up for better newer hardware....you say your shop has 6 in use.
Maybe upgrade one at first one funds available ,
making sure your programs will work in win10.
I’m sure there are many people using winxp with their diagnostics and just stay off the internet.
If you do upgrade to newer ToughBook, go with a reputable seller...well worth the extra expense.

Very true about a reputable seller. It's easy to end up with a bad touchscreen or mousepad from a low price eBay seller.

Don't let the END OF LIFE stuff scare you.

    Run SSD's if you can.
    Do fresh installs of Win7.
Install a decent Anti Virus/ Firewall (I use Comodo or Kaspersky)
Ignore the END OF LIFE warnings from Microsquash.

A good AntiVirus/ Firewall is much more important than Microsoft "updates" anyway.
