Hello:
I decided to upgrade my CF19 to W7 from XP. Everything works except for the front buttons. I can't figure out why they do not work. I have followed many driver instructions that I have found in Panasonic and also in this forum, including this one.
But again, nothing seems to work. I am looking for advise as to if the front buttons work with W7, if they do, how can I install them? What are the correct drivers, I currently loaded the drivers for the MK3 W7.
Any help help will be appreciated.
Thank you.

do you have unknown device in device manager?
-
I do not, I checked those and they matched the hotkey drivers. even then, they still did not work
-
Try to install this driver
http://pc-dl.panasonic.co.jp/dl/download/file/009108/s/ae0c56a9dea652d8/meitbtn_19_1_d070663.exe
And after it's installation also run this reg file MeiTBSet_STANDARD (it's in driver's folder)
reboot
or search for this reg file in your current driver's folder and run it
reboot

There are couple of things I just realized. I do have an unknown device. The device ID is ACPI\MAT0020. I tried installing the driver there, but it would not work. Also, it appears that my Misc driver cannot install as well. I can't find an Other Device and trying the one showing is unable to install.
I doing some research is appears that the unknow device is for HotKey Plus, any ideas???Last edited: Jul 26, 2016 -

Welcome to the Panasonic Toughbook forum
Yes just one...give up. This is something that we could not get working on the 19MK1. I worked on this for a very long time and no luck at all and I am not the only one that has tried it and failed. Does you touchscreen work ? -
I found that the Misc driver might install from a later model with the pininstall option, right click run as admin...might. Also...I have a recovery image for a Mk2 that was upgraded to Win 7 and everything works,it is a .tib file so you will need acronis (I have it) and you can recover it to your drive.
As that will wipe your drive, make a backup image first. I also have the Mk1,2,3,4 restore discs if all else fails. And a Brand new zero hour Mk2 just for fun.

I tried installing W7 on a 19 MK2 and everything worked fine but when I took the caddy and hdd out and installed it in my 19MK1 the front buttons still did not work. They are lots of threads on this and I remember only one member said he got it working but when asked how he did it he never came back so it got me wondering did he really get them working. -
Glad to here I am not alone. At least I know I am not going crazy. I have not installed the touchscreen drivers yet. should I expect trouble there also?
Thank you, I was able to get the Misc to work. I downloaded an earlier version with pinstall and the device showed up. It just a shame that I can't get the buttons to work, it appears that it is an issue with the upgrade.
Thanks for the offer, I have the recovery disks for the XP and Vista for the Mk1 and Mk2. I wanted to upgrade to W7 because I do software development and I need W7 to run Visual Studio.Last edited by a moderator: Aug 16, 2016 -

When you upgraded to W7 did you update the BIOS . You need the Vista BIOS update.

thanks for the tip. I went to the Panasonic site and they only had to downgrade version XP to Vista. Fortunately, I found one of your old postings with a link to the file and I was able to download.
I will give it a try today.Last edited: Jul 27, 2016 -

Thanks, I found it, installed. Good news, I got my Tablet Buttons to work. Bad news, my touchscreen is not working yet. I am going to post how I did it by tomorrow. I am going to post the drivers and the sequence. I used a combinations of XP, Vista and W7 drivers

Yes please do -
After several days and 4 clean installs trying to upgrade my CF-19 MK1 to Windows 7 and flipping between drivers, I finally was able to find the proper drivers and installation order to get the Tablet Buttons working.
Before I get into details I want to acknowledge a couple of very helpful posts.
- RCX – How To: Install Windows 8 on a CF18-MK1
- Rigmarole – CF-19 Windows 7 Tablet Upgrade Tips
I have performed these steps several times over the last few days and have been able to replicate the installation following the instructions.
My current model CF-19CJBCXBM
- 32bit
- 4GB RAM (upgrade)
- SD Card
- GPS
- 120GB SSD Hard drive to replace the stock hard drive (upgrade)
Since there are a lot of drivers to download I used the Panasonic Download Manager. I found it much easier to manage the download using this application. The list below represents only the basic drivers/applications needed to run the the CF-19. There many drivers/applications available that are not listed here but depending on the features in your PC may be required.
Because I used the Panasonic Download Manager to get my drivers, there are no EXE to extract, just the driver folder. I created a [C:\util] folder and moved all of folders to the location one by one as I followed the steps below. Much easier to manage and keep track of what you have installed so far.
When installing drivers that require the Setup.Exe, Do not click on [RUN], rather click on [Run as administrator]. Some files make changes to the registry and they will fail if you just click on [Run].
If when running any of the Setup.exe files, you get an incompatibility error, right click on [Properties]>[Compatibility]>[Run this program in compatibility mode for] and check select [Windows XP (Service Pack 2)]. If that fails, try the [Windows Vista].

NOTES:
All drivers noted with an asterisk (*) are critical for the installation. Nothing will work without them.
For other Toughbooks or CF-19s with different configurations, you may need to download additional drivers. I am only listing the ones I used for my configuration.
Begin Windows Installation
- Back up your files
- Install Windows 7 to an empty partition (clean install)
- At the [Review your time and date settings] screen, confirm time zone and set if needed
- Confirm date and time, set them and click [Next]
- Choose your user name, click [Next]
- Set a password if you choose, if not click [Next] to ignore password settings.
- At the [Type your Windows product key] screen, input the product key, then click [Next].
- When the message [Help protect your computer and improve Windows automatically] appears, click [Use recommended settings]
- Important: If [Connecting to Wireless Network] window appears, click [Skip]
- Update the BIOS – Make sure to follow instructions closely on this.
- Run Wb191v16.exe [Run as administrator]
- The computer will take a while to boot up.
- You will need to set the BIOS again.
- Intel Chip Set
- Run the .exe. Restart your PC.
- Panasonic Common Components
- Run Setup.exe [Run as administrator]
- Panasonic Misc Driver (The XP Version)
- Run Setup.exe [Run as administrator]
- It will not ask you, but you need to restart your computer.
- After restart, open the Device Manager
- [Other Devices]>[Unknown device]
- There are probably 4 Unknown devices. Right click on one of the “Unknown” devices and select [Update Driver]
- Manually select the driver using steps similar to the following:
- a. Choose to browse your computer for driver software
- Click "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer"
- Click the "Have Disk..." button on the next screen
- On the "Install From Disk" dialog, click "Browse"
- You will want the folder containing the Panasonic Misc Driver (Windows 7 version).
- Wait for the installation to complete, if it fails, they try the other Unknown Device.
- TouchPad Driver
- Open the Device Manager
- Expand the "Mice and other pointing devices" category
- Right click on the PS/2 device and select "Update Driver Software"
- Manually select the driver using steps similar to the following:
- Choose to browse your computer for driver software
- Click "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer"
- Click the "Have Disk..." button on the next screen
- On the "Install From Disk" dialog, click "Browse"
- You will want to use the folder containing driver fidmous.inf
- Hotkey Driver
- Open the Device Manager
- Find the section that includes the "unknown" devices
- Right click on one of the unknown device and select "Update Driver"
- If you select the wrong unknown device, the install will fail. No worries, just pick the other unknown device.
- You will want to use folder containing the driver hotkey.inf
- Hotkey Appendix Application
- Run Setup.exe [Run as administrator]
- Restart computer
- Hotkey Settings Application
- Run Setup.exe [Run as administrator]
- Tablet Button Manager
- Run Setup.exe [Run as administrator]
- Restart your computer
- Tablet Buttons Driver
- Open the Device Manager
- At this point, there should be just one "unknown" device
- Right click on the unknown device and select "Update Driver"
- Manually select the driver using steps similar to the following:
- Choose to browse your computer for driver software
- Click "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer"
- Click the "Have Disk..." button on the next screen
- On the "Install From Disk" dialog, click "Browse"
- You will want to use the folder containing the driver MeiTBtn.inf (found in the top level of the driver archive file extract; do not use the one in the amd64 folder)
- Wait for the driver installation to complete; if the install fails, try the other unknown device
- Manually copy meitbrc.dll to C:\WINDOWS\system32
- Run MeiTBSet_STANDARD.reg to update the registry
NOTE:
At this point there shouldn’t be any more Unknown Devices under [Device Manager]. However, and I cannot tell why, in some instances one remains, if that is the case, then you will need to run:
- HotkeyPlus Settings Application
- Run Setup.exe [Run as administrator]
- Restart computer
- HotkeyPlus Driver
- Open the Device Manager
- Find the section that includes the "unknown" devices
- Right click on one of the unknown device and select "Update Driver"
- If you select the wrong unknown device, the install will fail. No worries, just pick the other unknown device.
- You will want to use folder containing the driver hotkey.inf
- Open the Device Manager
- Panasonic Notification Utility*
- RunSetup.exe [Run as administrator]
- Concealed Mode Utility*
- RunSetup.exe [Run as administrator]
- Loupe (Magnification) Utility*
- RunSetup.exe [Run as administrator]
- Battery Recalibration Utility*
- RunSetup.exe [Run as administrator]
- Wireless Switch Utility*
- RunDelay.regto update the registry
- RunSetup.exe [Run as administrator]
- Wireless Connection Disable Utility*
- RunSetup.exe [Run as administrator]
- Display Rotation Tool*
- RunSetup.exe [Run as administrator]
- PC Info Viewer*
- RunSetup.exe [Run as administrator]
- DMI Viewer
- RunSetup.exe [Run as administrator]
Install any other application/driver you need for your MK1 at this point.
After the installation I had some issues with calibration. Thanks rcx for the great post on calibrating the digitizer.Shellback, Shawn and toughasnails like this. -
