I have a used CF-19FHGAXAM with a new HDD, so no native Panasonic software.
I have reset BIOS the by unplugging battery so it is at it's default values.
I installed a stock Sony GPS unit and Windows (7 Pro 32-SP1) says "No Sensor Installed".
I go to the bios and don't see any setting to enable the GPS. Everything is enabled though with the exeption of Wake on LAN.
I look in the Com3 settings and see nothing indicating that any GPS is connected to it.
I removed/reinstalled the GPS card and same thing.
Any thoughts?? I have scoured the links and tried all that I can find including the registry patch for the MK3 since I couldn't find any for Win7 in a Mk2.

Welcome to the Panasonic Toughbook forum

First off have you installed all the drivers from the Panasonic download site for W7 ? I always go into the bios and set default that way.

I finally found the GPS setting in the BIOS under "serial devices"...it was set Auto...I changed to Enable and gave me a serial setting that I did not change.
Still no change though....Not recognized in Windows.."Sensor not Installed"
Are you referring to the Driver Bundle? I saw that but not sure if it was the right one. It seems Panasonic doesn't really support Win 7 on a MK2. The driver bundle was for MK3 and up. Also it looks VERY complicated to install !

The W7 file here is an executable (.exe) 32 bit is best for MK2.

Download and double-click or right click run as administrator.

This GPS receiver will not work as a location sensor, it doesn't have sensor driver.
It's just a COM port with NMEA flow. Set your software to use that port and you are there.

I did the update but absolutely no change.
I run VisualGPS and there seems to be some kind of data stream from COM3 but I have NO idea if it means anything...I tied to copy it but no luck. Just a bunch of CSV numbers.
But Windows still says "No Sensor Installed"

HA...sorry...we hit post at the same time.

Well this is interesting....neither of those links work....One is blocked because of a virus and the other downloads as a numbered file (no name) and when i tried to install it the box disappears right away....you know, like a virus. I went to the Leadleak page (developer) and they don't have it on their site anywhere.
But anyway when I run GPSviewer I see all sorts of data. I let it run for 2 hours and it showed some satellites but they were moving all over the place. A breadcrumb map of my location was scattered over a massive area.
So it appears the port is working but are there some settings that might be screwing up the data. I have baud rate at 4800.

Not really, but my phone and car GPS are working great. I would hope that this thing would work at least as good as that.

it seems that the module you are using is not-so-great .
i have mentioned this before ... i have had modules that were dead or way out on accuracy .
a certain amount of bobble is to be expected but should put you in at least a 10 meter radius .
the sony modules are getting long in the tooth .

When I take it outside it starts to lock on sats...5 is the best I could get though. I will play with the bauds to see if that helps. Specs of the module say that 4800 actually limits it.
I have also read that these gps modules just aren't that great to start with compared to USB gps modules.
Thanks for all the help everyone.!!
On a side note....why does this site, especially the home page, drag my browser down (Firefox)?? I keep getting script errors like crazy on the home page. I found I had to all of my searches from within threads. Minor issue....CHEERS all !

4800 or 9600... That speed doesn't limit satellite quantity :)
If it works - baud rate is correct.
Higher rates needed for 10Hz, for example.
2 pages discussion about GPS module that is always unstable :)
