CF-19 MK3 with Sierra Wireless MC8780

Hi, I'm new to the forum and any help or advice would be gratefully appreciated. I can see a number of members really know their stuff where toughbooks are concerned.

I have a CF-19 MK3 which is working with a Qualcomm GOBI 1000 UMTS PCI modem perfectly well. It uses the Panasonic wireless software. I've purchased a Sierra Wireless MC8780 (Europe/UK) which I want to use instead for it's GPS capabilities. I've used these in MK2 CF-19's previously without a hitch. However, the MK3 is proving more difficult.

The machine is simply not recognizing the MC8780. I've tried the dip switches in the three various recommended positions. The GOBI 1000 works with 1&2 on and 3&4 off. But none have succeeded in finding the MC8780. Both the relevant antenna cables are connected correctly.

I also have downloaded the latest watcher software and attempted to do firmware upgrade, but again their software isn't recognizing the presence of the MC8780.

Will this card work in a MK3? Has anyone else succeeded with a similar card other than the standard GOBI 1000? I'd be grateful for any input.

 

Have you installed the drivers? Do you see it in device manager?

 

1. Check this MC8780 in MK2. I've bought some non-working/glitchy MC8780 cards.
2. Return it and buy MC8790 - it's much much better. MC8780 is an awful modem/GPS

 

Yes it is showing in device manager and I have installed the drivers. With reference to it being poor hardware, I've installed a dozen of these previously in MK2's without a hitch and they work fine. Though I don't doubt the MC8790 might be an improvement. Not sure it's the problem here though. Thanks for the input.

Or how about using a GOBI 2000 modem instead? I believe this has GPS built-in. Has anyone used this with a MK3? I know the MK4 ships with one.
