    Hi all,

first post here so please be gentle! I've recently taken on a MK4 CF-19 along with a docking station for it. Very happy with it, and even runs Catia comfortably.

One gripe however is the resolution for external monitors. I'm aware the specs state a max resolution in the region of 1366x768 or something like that anyway. What I'd like to know is, are there any hacks or alternative drivers etc that will allow me to output at 1920x1080?

Things I've tried so far include adding custom resolution to the intel graphics control panel, and while this allows you to enter 1920x1080, the display is squashed down to fit into what would be 1366x768.

I've also tried forcing a driver update to use the standard intel drivers. This didn't work.

So, are there any hacks or whatever to get these things to run 1920x1080?

I did see one post on this thread which suggests it may be possible, but how? http://forum.notebookreview.com/panasonic/673962-cf-19mk5-maximum-resolution-external-display.html

I know that on the cf52's the screen resolutions are set in the BIOS. I imagine the CF19's are the same. Ador will know more about it though. I'm sure he will answer you soon.

    HI Shawn,

Thanks for that. Had a look in the BIOS and can't see anything that would be relevant to display resolution.

As Shawn said "the screen resolutions are set in the BIOS." The resolutions are not adjustable in the BIOS, that is why you did not find any settings. You would have to hack the BIOS to try and enable other resolutions.

Ah OK. So do we know of any hacks for the BIOS?

No, I don't. There are tools on the net that will allow you to modify the BIOS. GL.

WAIT WAI TWAIT WAIT! You guys are already ahead of yourselves!! NO BIOS mods!!! NOT NEEDED!

This is possible!! I did it myself with my CF-19RMRGX1M... I set it to 1920x1200 for my 28" screens through the dock!

It's software driven dude! If I recall correctly you have to create a CUSTOM profile in the Intel management software for the video card and apply it. VOILA!

    Thanks!

Thanks for the heads up Rob. I thought the only way to enable higher resolution was a BIOS hack.
I wonder if that would work on a CF-52GUN with a non-touch wide screen, to get rid of the 1/2" strips down one side of the screen? Too bad I gave away my last non-touch CF-52 LCD. I guess I could take the display off the 52GC and try it on the 52GUN.

    Thanks again Rob.

    Hi Rob,

I have been down the custom resolution route - you're referring to the intel control panel for displays, yes?

I've tried setting custom res to 1920x1080 @60Hz however this results in the image being squashed in at the sides leaving me with two black bars either side. I have noticed that under the Custom Resolutions section there is a basic and also advanced mode. Which did you use to get this working? So far I have only tried the basic settings as I'm unsure where to start on the advanced. See screenshots. Is this where you got things working?

Hi, I remember having to change the refresh rate to get a CF-T8 properly aligned screen on the external monitor. I suggest you 75 Hz or higher.

No idea. My screens are all 1920 x 1200.

    Never had that problem.

OK, a little bit of progress here. Added a custom resolution @ 75Hz as Romain suggested, and this has given me a full 1920x1080 display! However... its a little on the blurry side. Any ideas how to resolve that?

Thanks for all your help so far!

First: use the auto adjust function from your monitor.
Second: check your cable quality (ferrite core or not) and connectors (they have to be clean), move (or remove) the power adapter. You have electromagnetic interferences

Forcing a monitor to a non native resolution can cause a fuzzy image

Oh I'm quite aware of that - I'm a system admin & electronics engineer. The native res is 1920x1080.

The same monitor & cable works crystal clear on my desktop machine, so the blurryness has to be down to the toughbook. I realise 1920x1080 is not a supported resolution for the CF-19, but surely it must be capable of it? I mean, I'd understand if I was having issues getting 2560x1440 to work

Now, thats one thing I haven't tried now you mention it! Out of office now so will test when i get back in the morning, but good thinking. At least I could eliminate the dock being the cause, or indeed discover the dock is the cause
