Hi all Im back, Ive not have any problems till now with my new to me Mk5, its all up and running well.

The 1Tb hard drive in the CF has been partitioned, I have w7 loaded and thats all working well and also got XP loaded, dual screen is not working in XP but thats not a problem.

Ive got here old vehicle diagnostics interface, Ive loaded the software for it on both w7 and XP and on both its hit and miss if it works, it'll work a little better on the w7 partition, it'll coms with the USB port I'd say 7 out of 10 times, on the XP partition about 4 out of 10 times !

Ive loaded the same software on my old Pentiun D desktop XP machine, I can get the interface to coms no problem at all, Ive been told that this particular interface needs a good 5 volts from the USB for it to work. I have checked USB out on desktop and that's got 4.8 volts, the CF has a solid 5 volts

So the question is, what controller \ chip does the CF have for the USB's

    Thanks

I'm sure it's Intel. You can check it (and exact controller model) in device manager.
Try to use powered USB hub. Just for a test :)
