Honestly, my next step would be the restore disc. A lot easier but that depends on where you are and how hard it is the get it.

Yep, I:ll try and get one, Ive googed and read on here other people having the same problems, its strange how the Hotkey plus driver is not listed in the downloads for this machine, I;ll try a driver from Mk2 or 3 and see if that works

    Thanks

You don't have to install, reinstall etc. Just run .reg file from the driver's directory and reboot.

Very strange all this, Ive worked my way up from 2, CF-18;s, then 4 CF-19's, all going up a Mk or 2, I had a problem with the 1st CF-18 as I didnt read the install guide for the drivers, this Mk6 is a nightmare, I cant understand why a Mk2 driver works and the Mk6, as selected on the Panasonic driver website, dont work.

I'll carry on bashing my head on the wall till its all sorted

    Thanks

a partial answer as to *why* a seemingly older driver will work on a newer MK ...
it can be that the driver that was written is "good enough" in conjunction with the new hardware (or what have you) or there was no change in the hardware or ...
the driver was written to cover more than one version of hardware .
the reason for the numbering of the driver (in this case a "2" being used) is to denote which MK version it is used in , just to keep things straight and simple .
this is not an unusual practice ...
the same thing is used in electronic parts and spark plugs for engines ...
man , i remember the same plug numbers usable on 6 different engines and over many years .
don't get me started with chevy and gm parts interchangeability ...
my first experience when i was 16 : the same part was 20 bucks more if you got the gm flavor .

I can see what your saying BUT why didn't the driver work that's listed on the official driver site when mk6 was selected, if that driver works for most why not put the option to try both drivers?

    I don't have any problems with mk6's official drivers/bundles.
Maybe there is a sense to uninstall the current driver and install the correct one (and only one :) ).

I've got to sort the lid out still, i might glue it for now and get a carbon look wrap till I find another.
I've also got, an exact matching number 4gb mem stick, to take it up to 8gb, another caddy and a Samsung evo 750ssd all on its way to me, when that's all in, glued and sorted I'll try again

    Thanks
