Hi Guys, first thread so go easy!!

I have been pulling my hair out over this issue for days now, so thought i'd seek further advice.

We have recently upgraded one of our CF-19's (Mk3 K) to Windows 7, I have got everything working except the SIM card. I contacted Panasonic and they said it was a Gobi 1000, and they kindly provided me with the drivers. I have installed this package, along with the Toughbook connection manager. When I insert a SIM, I can see it under the mobile broadband adapter, I can connect to it fine without any issues. However I can't connect to the internet, even though it says it has internet access. I have tried 2 different SIMs from 2 different providers but still get the same problem. If I ping google, or any public addresses, I just get a general failure on the command line. All the settings appear correct, I have a valid IP, gateway, subnet mask etc, but can't work out what the problem is. I even tried creating a dial up connection on Vodafone using *99# but that didn't work either.

    Any thoughts would be appreciated!!

    Thanks
    Matt.

    Firewall? Antivirus?

Did the sim work with the old OS?
    What OS was on it?
What is the full model number?
How did you upgrade? Over original OS or fresh install?

    Is APN correct?
Next step - try to ping IP address, not google.com

Had the same when I updated to a mc7305. I had to use different apn and login to get access. I had really weird issues, I couldn't get it connected to tmobile or vodafone but KPN and xs4all (small virtual provider) did work perfect.
For me it was some tinkering and now it works pretty good. What doesn't work well is gps, but I don't use it, so that's not a problem, just annoying :-D

Vodafone SIM worked using *99# using web / web username and password
    Was on XP 32 bit
    Full model number is: CF19KHRCHPE
    Fresh install

APN is correct, I believe, still can't ping IP

    Thanks will look now

We need to use GPS too, I seem to have it working okay at the moment, do you have integrated GPS module?

    Right guys

To make this issue even stranger, is that when I connect the Toughbook to a 3G / 4G router, it still won't connect to the internet, even though this traffic is going over wireless!? In short it doesn't seem to like any connection from mobile data.

Our supplier have asked to try the command AT+CGDCONT=1,”IP”*APN NAME* but this didn't work, does anyone know what this does?

    Thanks

You are connecting to that router via Wi-Fi, so your laptop doesn't even know it's using mobile data :)
That AT command is standard for GSM/HSDPA connections, but you have syntax errors there.
If you want to use it (it's a good idea if you don't have connection manager), open device manager, search for your mode, open properties, add initialization string
    +CGDCONT=1,"IP","internet"
Without "AT", and you may have to use another APN instead of "internet".
Use quotes and commas as written.

But if you also have this problem with Wi-Fi, check whether your connections are managed by DHCP, not static IP. If that doesn't help - try this command from cmd
    netsh winsock reset
It will reset Winsock, and after restart you will have working connection I hope :)

Hi, thanks for this. I tried this but it still didn't work :( I think the problem is that i'm not getting a default gateway, i'm just getting 0.0.0.0.

Any more ideas before I give up?

    Thanks

Don't give up. Your hardware is working, so we will win in this battle :))
Let's check one more time. Your 3G router connects to Internet, but your laptop, connected to this router, doesn't? Can another laptop get Internet access from this router? Can your laptop get Internet access from another (any) Wi-Fi AP?
After that we'll move to modem :)

P.S. If you don't have private data there, I can connect by Teamviewer later today and look at that problem.

Try doing a direct cable connection to the router and see what happens..
    Try disabling all software firewalls.
Open up the GUI for the router and see what is going on with it when you try to connect the laptop.

Did you install the Wireless switch software? Check the status of things in it.
Check the physical wireless switch inside the PCMCIA door.

Have you contacted customer service for the providers? I bet the technical support people can sort this out fairly quick..
