Hello All :hi2:, My name is Paul glad to be a part of the commune. My first post so I'll try and keep this short and to the point.
Model Number:
CF-19PJRFXAM
Status:
DISCONTINUED
MSRP:
$4,579
Description: WinXP (Vista COA), Intel Core 2 Duo SU9300 1.20GHz, 10.4" XGA Touch, 160GB, 2GB, No WLAN, No Bluetooth, Dual Pass, TPM, GPS, Rubber Backlit Keyboard, Smartcard, No Absolute BIOS, No Drive, Toughbook Preferred
I recently acquired this and was wondering what "No Absolute BIOS" means also as you can see I had to buy a drive so the only way i thought i knew how to install Win 7 was on a different computer using new drive and then slide it in the 19 and I'd be done, ha, ha. Shame on me. Of course start up gets to where the Windows logo starts to appear and spin and then freezes and BSOD. Error code: 0x0000007B, 0x80786B58, 0xc0000034, 0x00000000,0x00000000. I have downloaded all the files from the Panasonic site and put them on a flash drive, I tried to make a bootable usb flash using the Windows tool and the iso. X17-59465 but the tool says it is not a valid iso. file, also can i add wireless to this or some kind of internal hardware to connect to the internet? Thanks for all your input.
This seems like the forum to be on if you own or are thinking about owning a notebook. Well organized and easy to maneuver around, Great job administrators.
Thanks again
Paul

Paul... Welcome to the craziness. You need to find either a Recovery DVD or manually install W7 and drivers. Either way you will need an external DVD. I just bought on eBay for $23 shipped. I just bought 3 CF-19s for various projects and am loading W7 on them now.
EDIT... Yes... You can add wifi! -
Thanks Toughbook, glad to be aboard. I guess i will have to use the external dvd, I just tried to use the usb stick with all the files on it and Dos says it can't find the file when i try and use annerick's method of installing 7 without recovery disks. Dos sees the files but can't find them.

From my recent experience...
USB sticks DO work to boot, BUT I had to press F2 and go to the BIOS after I plugged in the USB stick.
The USB stick was being shown as an Sandisk USB Cruzer HDD. I had to enable booting from it after I plugged it in...
Also I had an issue using USB DVD /CD drives. The CF19 and M34 did not always find the disk in "other"brand drives and enclosures. I got a Panasonic CF-VDRRT3U and they boot from it much better.

Welcome to this meeting. My name is Alec, I'm a toughbook addict. I just bought my second one and I have no intent to stop there!!
On topic: I have been using a external drive from LaCie and it worked perfectly. Using recovery DVD's is really the preferred way of reinstalling W7. It's possible without, but it's really no fun. -
I'm glad to know that USB sticks do work to boot from. I've never had such a hard time trying to put an OS on a hard drive. These Toughbooks, they sure named them right. I love'em, i also have a CF-18 with Windows XP i use for programming vehicles. That's why i wanted to put Win 7 on the CF-19, I figured the Auto makers would eventually switch to 7 and i would be left out in the cold. I just ordered a DVD drive, it wasn't a Panasonic so i'll keep my fingers crossed. My USB stick is some generic thing. That could be a problem too i guess but the computer sees the stick.

It's no problem to load W7 manually... You just need to download all the drivers and probably read up on the installation process. Some drivers may need to be done in a certain order... Some install themselves (After you expand them) and some are installed via Device Manager. It isn't hard to do... It just takes a little more time. AND you will learn more about your Toughbook in the process!

That's weird that the Windows USB/DVD tool says "not a valid iso. file but i burned that same file to a disk with no problem. I will just wait till the usb dvd shows up and try the disk. I thought i could plug in the stick and transfer some files but i don't know enough DOS. My machine used D: for the OS and the Flash drive is E: and in DOS i can do a dir on E: and see all the files on the flash but when i try and installa file it says can't find file. Obviously I'm doing something wrong.

Oh by the way the usb dvd did the trick, thanks.
Well i just found out i had the card in the wrong slot, duh, I'm alright, most of the time. but no connections still no internet. Do i need an antenna? -
Toughbooks are picky about wifi cards. I have always either used the stock card or ponied up the money for a nice one! Did you reset your BIOS to defaults? Did you see wifi listed in the BIOS and is it turned on?
If so and you don't see it in Device Manager... Then the card isn't compatible with the Toughbook. I've heard tell about people taping certain connections or painting them with nail polish on certain connections. You can do a search... But someone else will chime in who is more familiar with the CF-19. I specialize in the CF-29/30/31... -
Here is the tool I use for USB sticks.
RMPrepUSB
If it's Federal only the WIFI is locked out in BIOS.

The card is showing up in Device Manager now that i plugged into the right slot, and i looked in the bios everything is enabled unless i'm missing something somewhere. I have no wires to hook to the card or do i use wires from another device or install an antenna?
When i click the wireless icon in the taskbar it says no connections available and i'm about 10 feet from my router. -

Update on this one! I did call Panasonic Support with this issue of installing a wireless card in a federal govt TB.
The first guy I talked to had no clue but he transferred me to another CS familiar with these models ..and sure enough he confirmed my worst fear..
to quote exactly what he said .." Even if you install a wireless card in, is not going to work unless you upgrade the motherboard as well" he would not go in details on why ..
...
When you install a Wifi card in a Federal model, It WILL show in Device Manager, but it WILL NOT work. Many Many Many people have tried...A BIOS flash from a NON federal model MAY solve the problem, but I won't guarantee it. You may end up with a brick. -
WOW!!!!! What a bummer. Man you sure made my day, darn' it. and i liked this thing to. Oh well live and learn. Thanks for your help and all the information, I have learned a lot already. So is there a way to connect other than wired, that works great.
I read the entire post and whew i'm glad it was him and not me, man what a headache, I'm to old for all that. I'll either change motherboards or sell it. Thanks you've been a big help. -

Something I was wondering if them small USB WiFi ones will work. You can get them for cheap on ebay. I know they are not the strongest but better than no WiFi...

Pc card wifi perhaps? Most I know stick out of the bay, so not really convenient, but that doesnt need to register in the bios, I guess.
