I have a CF-19 MK4 that was happily running Windows 7 PRO (I think it was x64) but it was slow. I upgraded the RAM by adding a 4GB stick in the easily accessible slot. Windows ran fine. Then I swapped out the HDD for a SSD and attempted to reinstall Windows 7 PRO x64. That's where my troubles started. I cannot get the windows installer to start. I've tried multiple flash drives as well as a portable hard drive. I've tried 32 and 64 bit windows. When I start the computer, I get two separate "Windows is loading files" bars that both fill up. The next screen is the "Starting Windows" screen, but before the colored spinning circle even appears, it freezes. I cannot activate caps or scroll lock, so it appears it is completely frozen (prior to that point, they both cycle when pressed). I thought it could have been the SSD so I removed it and ran the install and got the same result. The only thing I haven't tried was putting the old HDD back in, but that would be a PITA because I would have to disassemble the hard drive caddy again.
I'm wondering if there is something special about the install disk I don't know about (special driver or something) that is causing my problems.

You can select the boot device in the exit tab of the bios. That should make this a little easier.
Honestly it sounds like a possible memory issue. But since you say the memory ran fine prior to reinstall it might not be.
There is a diagnostic option in the exit page of the bios. Try running fully diagnostics on the memory and hard diskROBERT INZANO likes this. -
I think it's an SSD problem. You have to choose one made by reliable brand.

I'm running the diagnostic utility now. It's moving very slow on the RAM test, hard to tell if it's frozen or not. I'll let it go for awhile. I'll try taking out the new stick if it fails or stays frozen.
I tried to rule out the SSD by removing it from the machine then running the install but I got the same result.

It will take up to 3hrs to run. It should flash once a minute.

Welp..... it rebooted about 7 minutes into the RAM test.

Is this a generic windows 7 install disk/iso/usb you are using?
-
Yes it's a download from Microsoft.

I removed the 4AGB ram and it loaded. New RAM I put in is no good.
