Hi all just got a reasonable condition CF-19 Mk 1 ( I think it's a Mk 1, model number CF-19CKxxxxx) to replace my old trusty CF-18, the CF-18 is still up and running but a little slow to run some of the programs it's crammed with. Can someone please tell me what the max memory and hard drive size I can put in my new to me CF-19. I remember when I called toughbook support about the max hard drive size for the CF-18 and was told the max was 160Gb, it's been happily running a 320Gb for the last 4 years without a problem
Thanks

I don't know what the cap is for the CF-19 harddrive but I have seen where people have said that they have installed 500 GB with out problem.
On the ram the limit is 4 GB that is what I have in mine. BUT the Mk1 is core duo, 32 bit only so you will only be able to use 3.25 worth of your 4 Gb of ram.dctgs likes this. -
RAM 3GB
HDD 2,5" max capacity you can find on the market -
Thanks for the info, I email toughbook support today and they said max extra ram 1Gb, its strange why they tell you this, I though it must of been more as my CF-18 has max of 1Gb and I was sure the CF-19, even the Mk1 could handle a little more.
So what ram should I be looking for ??
Thanks Again -
Sorry about the double post, I have the same here:

Thanks guys for the info, ive just downloaded the "scan your system" just to see what it come back with, its strange that toughbook support told me that it can only take 1Gb extra ram !!!

Maybe you've talked to a customer support in India thats why he don't know what he is talking about.
I can confirmed what the guys here said. Its up to 4gb PC2

CF-19C/D/E (Mk1) - Comes with 512MB or 1GB installed. Expandable to 4096 MB
That is straight from Panasonic web site.
Panasonic Professional Mobile Computer Support FAQs
BUT I have seen errors to some of those FAQ pages they have up. Like the max ram on older models and some video cards on CF-51's. I know of at least two errors on that one. -
Thanks again for the info guy's, this machine has 1024Mb installed, Ive just removed the memory hatch, in there, there is 1 mem stick installed, I assume that is the installed 1Gb, it looks like it can only be removed if the base of the maching is taken off + 1 free slot:
http://i287.photobucket.com/albums/ll151/nokevin/mem2.jpg
Now do I just bung in there a 4Gb stick or do i have to remove the installed 1Gb and put 2 x 2 Gb's in there ?
Thanks -
2 x 2MB and yes, remove the complete base plate for easy access to the inner stick you can see. Must be a really good reason Panasonic built it that way but I'm just too dumb to see it.
I bought Crucial, always found them reliable. -
Cant thank you enough guy's for helping me out with this, Just 2 more qusetions for tonight anyway as its 1:30am here and I must get some sleep, here we go,
Anyone got a guide for removing the base pannel
Ive got the choice of Toshiba, WD or Hitachi hard drive upgrade,
I stuck a WD in me CF-18 and thats done very well, should I stick with the WD and get another for this or do you guys recomend anything else
Thanks -
There is no sense in installation of 2x2GB into CF-19 MK1. Windows will see 3.2GB only. Just install 2GB in that free slot.

Thanks again for the info, Ive ordered 2 so I may as well stick them in, if windows can use the little extra 0.2 + the 1 thats in is as old as the laptop I should think so a new one maybe a little more reliable. I have also ordered a 500Gb WD sata, next on the list is a new screen protector, not looking forward to changing that

I think I'll order 2 of the as I'm bound to muck the 1st one up, if I don't I've always got a spare. I had a word this morn with the guy that does all me auto paint, he's got a spray booth\oven that got a special filter system on it so it's 100% dust free, I think I'll have a go at fitting it in there & see how it goes

or try it is the shower with lots of steam

I ordered two originals, just to be safe. Sat early morning in my office, cleaned the screen very well with a fibre cloth and then peeled of a little part from the protecting foil, got in on and then pulled away the protecting foil while installing the screen protector. This way the foil puls any dirt away and there is hardly any space or time to get dirt or dust in between them. Got
a perfect clean installation.
But it isnt an easy task for sure!! -
When you say "originals" what original panasonic screen protectors ?? do you want to sell me your spare one
-
Eehm, it's a spare because I really use them and they don't have a unlimited long life. You can order them at any official dealer/repair centre like this:
Screen protector for the Netherlands
These are sold as ones that come from Panasonic. Whoever makes them for Panasonic I don't know.
The are not cheap (€48 ex 19%VAT) but it's the best Ive seen so far. I had one from zagg, but it was a disaster as it was way to tactile/rubbery feeling and nail nor pen would run smoothly over it. You would get a slip/stick effect with every movement. Annoying.
But if you can't order them, I can sell my spare to you, I would just have to order a new one. -
Got me 2 x 2Gb's today, they're in and its up and running, I did tell the Guy in the shop I needed DDR2, PC2 5300, what I got was DDR2, PC2 6400, I don't know what the difference is but its working fine. Monday the hard drive will be here so thats next then its the dreaded screen protector
-
Any reason why? I remember on my CF-30 mk1 it did show 4gb ram with w7 32bit. Is there a way around that? -
In the short answer NO on the CF-19/30 MK1
The reason why is the motherboard and bios can handle 4gb of ram, the CPU used is the core duo. The Core duo is a 32 bit only CPU there fore the CPU is your limiting factor in that combo. -

Hard drive arrived today, thats in and Im just loading a fresh install of XP on it, so me new to me CF-19 has now 4Gb mem & 500Gb h\drive, when the new (ordered) front switches & screen protector arrives and is fitted it'll be as good as new
-
It is becoming a nice TB.
Takes some time and effort, but you'll get there!
