Hi,
I have a Mk5 2nd gen that keeps shutting down. When I go to power back on I have no response from the unit unless I change the battery from another working cf-19 and it'll boot straight away. Anyone got any ideas???

are the batteries known to be good ?
are/have you performed these tests with the correct AC adapter plugged in ?Shawn likes this. -
My other unit is faultless, runs fine using both batteries and both chargers.

"no response from the unit unless I change the battery ..."
gotta ask the obvious questions to make sure .
if you pull the battery from the malfunctioning unit , wait a minute and then place the same battery back in the unit ... does it power up ?Shawn likes this. -
Not with the same battery. The other unit will boot with the fauty units battery. But the faulting unit will boot straight away after replacing battery.

Please post a photo of the main bios page.
Also the batteries in question.
One final photo of the AC adapters would be great.
What is the time period to the shutdown?
What OS's?Last edited by a moderator: May 15, 2017 -
Right I've tried os's windows xp sp3 and windows 7 pro. Period of shutdown isn't regular can run for an hour or can run for ten minutes. Ac adapters are genuine Panasonic and an after market but faults on both, but working unit working fine on both chargers.

I think it's a battery problem, despite the fact it can power up another laptop.
What about start on ac adapter without batteries? -
No will not start on an ac adaptor until battery has been changed.

What AC adapters do you use? Model/photo/amperage? Maybe that second 19 is <=mk3 and uses 2.5A AC adapters?
-
Nope there both Mk5's and I've tried both genuine and after market charger both work fine.

ok, it's a magic

Still need to see photos of the bios main page.

Newbie question. How do I upload a photo of my bios using a iPhone 7plus as file is too large??
-
upload to image host such as imgur

I was expecting to see a custom bios or Intel ME disabled. But everything looks normal.
try a power - pull reset..
I do see that the hard drive is set for compatible mode.
AHCI mode is much better.
-
Tried power pull reset doesn't cure it. It's on compatibility mode so as I could install xp but I'll switch it back as now running xp mode in win7.

You need to start from scratch again. As Shawn noted, your Hdd is set to compatibility mode. It must be on AHCI mode otherwise you will experience what you had experienced right now. Set the hdd to AHCI before you install the OS.
