I've read somewhere there was perhaps going to be a CF-19 mk8 in Q2 2014, but is there any idea if this is going to happen?
I could really use the haswell chipset.
-
? don't know, but if they did it would be the longest lasting Mk line. I think the M34 and the 19 are tied right now because they are both up to Mk7.
-
There is new MK7 on ebay now.
2:30 till the end of auction
$1530.
I hope Panasonic will use next (after Haswell) chipset and decrease price to USD 1000
)
Also, I'm not an engineer, but I'm sure it's possible to make new CF-19 much thinner. No need to protect SSD etc. -
Nah, I woudn't want a smaller CF-19... I really like the space you have in this one. If it gets smaller it gets to much like a macbook-style: everything hot glued, clicked and ultrasound-welded in place?
Edit:And what about my in-car dock, desktop dock, batteries, chargers, in-car chargers etc.?
And about the mk7, what was the update from a mk6? just a speedbump? They might as well have called it the mk6s
But a discrete GPU would be nice sometimes to conserve battery if you're into a whole lot of video watching etc.snafu168 likes this. -
Ok, not smaller
But with PCIe SSD instead of HDD+caddy.
And use that space for "ultrabay". So user could install additional battery or HDD or transport drugs there
))
Selfsame with PCMCIA/Express ports.
My choice is 3 batteries
)
Also I don't need a modem, would like to see more USB ports (instead of FireWire too) and ready to change VGA port to HDMI+DP
Fingerprint reader in base.
My dreams
)
P.S. Discrete GPU was more battery-hungry always. Maybe I miss changes

I could go the "ultrabay" route if like lenovo you could use that to add a dedicated gpu, they use it to add a second video card for SLI. Don't need the extra performance, just swap it out for a battery, dvd or second hard drive.

You would have a discrecte & on-chip GPU, so for every day tasks you would use the on-chip GPU, for heavy tasks you would use the discrete GPU. Advantage is that an idling on-chip uses much less power, but when you need big power a discrete is much more efficient, so even when it uses 5x more power, it's 10x as fast and finishing the task much quicker.
A PCIe SSD would have the disadvantage that you couldn't swap it as quick & easy as a caddy. Remember that if you do a lot of research, data collection etc. etc it's very convenient to have the caddy removed in the evening, store it in a (fire)vault and you can sleep well knowing the data is safe from fire/theft. If you have one 19 that might not be as much of an issue, if you have 15 or 50 it's a much smaller vault when you can store just the caddies.
@Ador, I like the idea of a bay that can be used for several things. Just if you can hot-swap batteries would make it really worth while for me. -
IF the 19 ever gets a dedicated GPU I know it will be optimus swapped, but I figure it won't be a top end GPU.
CF-19 mk8, when??
