I have a Mk1 CF-19 with a Touchscreen (not a digitiser) and am struggling to get some drivers to get it running under Win 7/Vista.

The touchscreen will run OK out of the box using some native Win 7 drivers but it isn't recognised as a touchscreen so no tablet functionality is enabled.

I have tried three versions of the panasonic/Fujitsu Win 7/Vista drivers, but every time the installer fails. I can force the install by selecting the 'have disk' option, but this just loads the fujitsu drivers and calibration tool but doesn't enable pen/tablet functionality. Also I note that forcing the install registers the drivers as FUjitsu, where as running the installer apparently registers it as Panasonic and enables the pen functionality.

I am starting to believe that I may not have a standard Fujitsu touch screen which is why the installer isn't running properly - this may also tie in with the fact that I was told that my model (CF-19CHB23BE) was part of a batch made on special order.

So is anyone aware of any other makes of touch screen that might have been used whose drivers I can try to track down?

I know you have been having a lot of trouble with this, and I feel your pain. It has finally occurred to me that you keep looking for tablet functionality in a touchscreen driver. The touchscreen is a separate piece of hardware sandwiched with the display. The touchscreen is recognized and controlled by the touchscreen drivers. The tablet functions you are looking for have to do with the display, not the touchscreen! I'm guessing you are barking up the wrong tree here. If your touchscreen is working you probably have the right drivers installed. You need the correct hot key/button drivers.

As far as I can tell, the pen and tablet functionality in windows (vista and W7) and ink functionality in office is tied in with the touchscreen drivers.

It looks like windows is looking for a touchscreen device under 'Human Interface Devices' and then a pen/pointer style of device under the 'Mice and other pointing devices'.

Whilst I can get my touchscreen recognised OK, none of the extra windows/office functionality works because none of the drivers I've tried have enabled Windows to recognise the pen/pointer side of things and activate the tablet functionality - all I get under the mice settings (other than the touchpad) is a HID-compliant mouse.

Using a vbs script that does some registry hacks it is possible to enable some extra functionality like the pen controller in control panel, but then you can't use much of the extra functionality like gestures because of the underlying driver problem.

On the tablet button front, they do work, but only when I run the Win 7 hand writing app is running.

I still maintain that the key to my problems is down to the touchscreen drivers, so anyone else has any suggestions on that front it would be appreciated.

Thanks all for your input so far.

I suspect the tablet functionality in Win7 requires a digitizer, and will not work with the touchscreen. The registry hacks you enabled are probably about the best you can do.

At least with XP Tablet, using the tablet features required the ability to hover, and at least one pen button. Neither of these can be done with the touchscreen. I also found that the touchscreen was not really suitable for handwriting recognition for two reasons. First, the accuracy is not good enough, and second you can't rest your hand on the screen when writing.

By all accounts the Win7 tablet functionality will work fine as long as the touchscreen is properly recognised.

I can use the built in hand writing app and it seems to work well even managing to recognise my spider's scrawl -it would nice to be able to get that side of things working in office via ink as well as things like the gestures, etc.

Do you know of any other models that would have similar touch screens to the CF-19 - I want to try some other drivers to see if they work any better.

You could try Cf-30, Cf-74 drivers

I believe the touchscreen is the same as in the Fujitsu Lifebook series of similar vintage.

Sorry to cross post this to my other thread - both are down to the same conclusion......

OK, managed to make some progress - it seems that I have a custom model with custom BIOS that needs to be updated.

Unfortunately the bios seems to be locked so that it cannot be updated.

I think this is the end of the line, but will do some digging to see if it is possible to bypass the update lockout - either by locating intermediate BIOS updates to see if they work or by looking at hardware options to see if there are any switches on the motherboard.

I have V1.00L13 M14 BIOS and have been trying to run the windows based XP to Vista BIOS update bios_19_1_r070207.exe that fails with error 'This program will not run on this PC'.

From talking to some others in the know I may be able to get a bit further with the older DOS based BIOS update utility, but I can't find older versions to download.

Do any of you have some intermediary BIOS files that I can try to install?

    Thanks.
